Just want to get you guys thoughts on is Derek Hine the single most important person responsible for our 2010 premiership and hopefully more. Has his sensational recruiting ability outways the role of the senior coach and any single person on the playing list. Awsome to hear he re-signed with us a few weeks ago, and just because were on the top of the table doesnt mean his stopped with Mooney and Witts to join our list next year both look very promising to be big things

Derek deserves credit, but it's a team effort and what a team we have... Butifant has been important too, we have had a good run regarding injuries for a number of years, so Buts should get credit for that.

Was thinking about that this morning after watching MM presser. Just getting Ball/Krak/Joll's/Taz (not sure if just Hine is resp for those) in the last two seasons is fantastic. Can not recall in recent history 4 trades that have been that good.

And we do not need to go into detail about his drafting.....:thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

Much like the starting 22, while there are a few standout stars, it really is an overall team effort.

I mean, it's great to get good young players, but you need to then be able to develop them to become the best players they can be. It also takes good development to shine up that diamond in the rough (Swan for example).

You then need great conditioning staff to make sure you don't get too many Ruslings and Brad Dicks on your list.

You can win without the talent. Development is important but developing talent is what wins ****.

Hmmm, I see.....

But seriously I actually laughed out loud when I read that post.

hahahaahahahahaha.

Like everything else, balance is best.

The best thing about our balance at the club is that we have an equally great coach, fitness staff, president and assistant coaches that are just as great as Derek Hine.

Noel Judkins did a much better job. Scrap our current recruiting department and replace it with Noel. Noel Judkins.

2006 might yet be his crowning glory.

Ben Reid, Nathan Brown, Chris Dawes, Brad Dick, Tyson Goldsac (at 63) and rookies: Macaffer, Wellingham, Martin Clarke.

Unreal hits, particularly to largely complete our spine, very good backup backman in Goldsack (possible best 22, only a maybe because of depth in this area) and huge hits with Wellingham, Macaffer and Clarke at the time had huge potential but wanted out (not Derek's doing).

I salute you Derek.

I learn new things every time I come here......this time I learnt that Carlton is very very very concerned with development...
Derek Hine = respect
David Buttifant = respect
Mick Malthouse = respect
Eddie McGuire = total respect

Eddie stepped in over a decade ago, when the joint was in tatters. Like every Collingwood barraker he dreamed of glory days and slowly but surely developed a group of talented and dedicated professionals to make that dream come true for a star struck Broadie boy and the rest of us.

Sensational work Derek but just one cog in the mightiest machine since those terrors of the 30's, the original machine.

Will they say of this team as Jack Dyer famously said of the original machine "My nightmares are always in black and white"?

Time will tell but we have the players and the organization to excel in every facet of modern day football

Go PIES!!!!

Side by side.

What about anthony corrie, no one talks about that pick up, greatest ever pick up in the history of the club behind tyson lane and marty warry.

Was a nothing pick anyway, worth a punt for a pick 100 or whatever he was. I think Corrie had talent but unfortunately the lure of KFC and McDonalds meant even the great man Butters wasn't able to whip him into shape  :p

having lived the nightmares that were the dud recruits during the hafey era, i say we deserve every piece of good fortune (created by good recruiting) we currently enjoy.

knowing our key personnel are with us for many years ahead bodes well that we are in the best position possible to fight the latest franchises as they peak in a few years.

Being 40 I have also seen my share of Pie pain. But that was all forgotten when I yelled FAAASOLLLLOOOOOO watching the game this morning and my 3 year old copied me perfectly hands in the air and all.
