I just want to aknowledge the work our coaches are doing with the development of our list, but also highlight some areas individuals need to develop in their game to get the best out of themselves, this isn't about negative criticism just areas they can improve with time and age. I'll focus on players I've seen this year in the seniors or at Coburg.
Astbury - Clearly he needs to develop his physique, but mostly if he's going to be a potential CHB he needs to build his endurance to run with guys like Riewoldt or other future CHF's like him. Also has to spend a lot of time with Leppa on body positioning in contests.
Batchelor - Has to build the confidence to use his right foot, and develop the ability to do so.
Browne - Clearly needs to develop his endurance and strength, mostly he needs to continue to work with Lade on his tap work and develop an understanding with Foley, Cotchin, Martin and Conca. With greater endurance will become a threat going forward.
Conca - Reece has to work on his goal kicking composure, he's rushing this area of his game ATM when normally he shows great composure around the ground, is a good runner but naturally has to work on his endurance being a young kid. Defensive pressure also needs to be improved.
Connors - Haven't seen much of him this year, but still needs to work on decision making, and not going for the 1 out of 10 chance kicks across the ground.
Cotchin - Will continue to develop his leadership under Newman and one day take over from him, there aren't a lot of areas he needs to really focus on rather just get more consistant with everything. Needs time to really learn the best way to play on individual taggers, this will come with experience.
Dea - Endurance, and backline composure with the ball are his 2 weaknesses as I see it, needs game time to build up his confidence.
Deledio - He's working on all the defensive aspects of football, tackling, spoiling, blocking etc.. that make a complete footballer. Like Cotchin will need to learn the best way to break tags especially if he becomes an outside mid long term.
Derickx - All elements of ruck work, body positioning at throw ins and becomming dangerous around the ground by using his mobility.
Edwards - Kicking is his main area that needs work, also blocking and defensive minded actions to help team mates out. Could kick more goals.
Farmer - Needs more endurance to gut run and spread from the back line, iron out his poor decisions.
Foley - Pretty happy with him, maybe needs to win a bit more contested footy, had 18 against the Hawks, but has been relatively low for the rest of his games.
Gourdis - Has a lot to work on, Kicking with both feet. Needs to work on his body positioning with big forwards.
Graham - Contested marking and his field kicking need improvement. Tap work and timing needs a lot of work. Endurance is getting better but still needs to build his tank.
Grigg - His tackling and defensive pressure is a real concern, needs to be up for the contest, 6 out of 9 games with 1 tackle or less. His kicking is lazy at times also, he needs to develop his right foot.
Grimes - Build his physique, will develop the confidence to know when to mark and when to spoil.
Helbig - Needs to work on his endurance and physique mainly, then he can focus on moving into the midfield a bit more and developing that side of his game.
Houli - Can work on his defensive running and contested marking.
There's from A-H, to be where we currently sit and to still have a lot of improvement and development in these players is a real positive, the gameplan and structures along with the added help of our assistant coaches will allow these players to reach their full potential, which hasn't been an option for a lot of Richmond players over the years.
