Some 15 years ago, Steve Vai dubbed the then 19 year old Devin Townsend “The Boy Genius”. Vai was being most sincere, rather than sarcastic.

Since then Townsend has amazed, beguiled and occasionally baffled all comers in numerous incarnations spanning the extreme noise metal of Strapping Young Lad to the intricate melodies of Ocean Machine; Devin has had his hand in almost every genre of music, from industrial metal to progressive rock to ambient sounds. All of these projects had one thing in common: GENIUS.

From the perfection of the wall of noise that was ‘Strapping Young Lad’ to the brilliance of ‘The Devin Townsend Band’, Hevy Devy has embarked on his most ambitious project yet; a series of four albums under his new moniker ‘Devin Townsend Project’. “Each album is essentially a different band or collection of session musicians playing my music.” Townsend explains. The first album ‘Ki’ is a subtle, severe album with the whisper almost being louder than the roar. “Ki will end up being one of the albums of the year” – Chronicles Of Chaos.

The second album in the quadrilogy, ‘Addicted’, is, aptly, addictive. “The energy is boundless, the brightness is blinding, and, yes, Addicted is one of the very best albums in an absolutely ridiculous year in heavy metal.” – Metal review.com

In what seems like an eternity, long suffering Devin Zombies finally get their chance to witness the Devin Townsend Project in Australia throughout March 2010.

Coming to Perth on the 18th. Certainly sounds great, but my bank account won't be looking quite as good by then:eek:

Same, I'm taking a massive hit over the summer due to the bands touring.

Ed, you're bang on. Contrive are putrid. Second time in only a few months I've had to endure them( they supported Opeth also).

Devin was brilliant last night, his usual awkward self, and the set list was almost a greatest hits of his 'solo' work.

I did hear Addicted and thought it was great, never really listened to any of his stuff before. And Contrive are Haugs' band from teh Racket on JJJ aren't they? I saw em before Stone Sour a few years back, not bad but not great.

That is being kind, haha. I really wished Be'Lakor or some decent bad had got the support spot :/ Contrive only got the spot due to Devin's friendship with Andrew Haug.

I think I'll be getting a few down before and if I see Contrive.

Anyone else listening to the 2 new albums?

I've given Deconstruction a fair squirt since getting it, and it's quality, as I've come to expect from Devin. He always has this sort of happy/cheesy glow to everything heavy that he writes and this hasn't let me down. Some killer tunes on Decon.

Haven't been able to skip passed it to give Ghost a good listen yet.

Im the same :thumbsu:. Been giving most of my time to Deconstruction and as you said very much like what you come to expect. Will buy when it comes out.

Obtained Ghost to, though havent given it a listen yet. Supposed to be the softest stuff he's ever wrote or something like that.

Big fan of Decon. Was a little disappointed the first time i heard it, but it grew on me really quickly. Juular and Polergeist are gold.
I guess the closest comparison i can come up with is a cross between SYL and Ziltoid.
Ghost as well is a good album, i don't think it's quite as good as Ki, but it's solid.

Still shattered i missed that show this thread is about, and i'm bloody hoping he does a sideshow. No way i'm paying $150 just to see him in Melton

I'm assuming everyone else here has Ocean Machine: Biomech as their favourite album? :p
