i know how bad it sounds but could we have just stopped during the 3rd qtr? it just seemed like we had the game under control until that point. thoughts?

i dont think carlton stopped trying, just ran out of legs and ports experience may have carried them over the line
you played much much better than a bottom placed side, very gutsy effort today and unlucky you didnt get the win, ive hurt my throat this arvo cheering you boys on.. would love to see you get off the bottom next week by beating the pies

I doubt that they stopped trying, just seemed to run out of legs to continue the excellent tackling and pressuring of the first half. That said the boys kicked over 100 points again so we're on the right track as far as offence is going :D

It was a close finish and I think in the end it came down to who wanted it more. I'm very happy with a close loss today though as it means we should get those picks. Plenty of positive signs also. Well done to Bentick. Yet another young player beginning to peak at our club.

I couldn't have asked for a better result... well, maybe a draw. ;)

Port are a better side, simply as that.

We played great for the first half, tackling, tough footy.

I was always expecting Port to overrun us though and they did.

We should beat Collingwood with ease next round :D

we stopped ...lets just leave it at that ;)
btw i thought Wiggins was great early
How bloody good was Wiggins mark. It has to be one of the gutsiest marks I have seen. IMO he might have saved his spot on carlton's list for next year with it. The man has no regard for his own safety as he throws himself at everything. It's a pity he has such poor disposal becasue his hardness at the ball is amazing.

How unfortunate that the same usual players in Longmuir, Betts, Morrell and Chambers were an absolute waste of oxygen today. Bryan also seemed to have a poor game.

I wouldn't be surprised if Bentick receives the Rising Star award this week, considering last week's game and today's 20 possession effort. Simmo was a shining light as well.

What lost it for us today?

No ruckman.

The amount of times Lade tapped the ball to Francou was ridiculous. Then again, what can you expect with a reject Port ruckman?

Best IMHO:
Campo, AB, Waite, Lappo, and Simmo.

To be fair Barney has given the Blues pretty good service in his time.

He is still coming back from injury for memory so he is bound to be a little underdone.

IMHO it's our club's greatest concern.

French, Bryan, De Luca and to a lesser extent Prendergast is probably the worst ruck department in the AFL.

I read that we might even be picking up a specialist ruck coach instead of relying on Justin Madden's occasional visit. Finally the people in control have woken up!

Yeah I think at full fitness you can still get some decent games out of French for another couple of years.

You will probably draft a ruckman in the next draft and probably hope to fast track his development.

We drafted Fabian DeLuca as a project player in the last draft but he has really exceeded expectations this year.

I would expect Carlton to make a play for him at some stage if his brother is still at the club perhaps this will entice him to leave Port.

Port were extremely surprised they got him as late as they did in the draft.

I'd certainly hope we do as well. However, it looks as though the top draftees are mostly midfielders, so it'll be interesting to see what develops.

After we selected Russell, I was sure we'd draft Fabian with pick 21. Turned out we picked Hartlett instead.

Perhaps you'd care to take Houlihan as a swap for him? ;)

Dont know about Bentick being 2nd best. He tries his guts out and is good in close but seems to lack pace and is a bit shaky with his kicking. Also seemed loose on Burgoyne.

I only intended to list the players, not rank them.

I'd say Lappo was our best, followed by Waite, Simmo, Campo, then AB.

Shaky with his kicking? I don't recall him ever missing a target.....

Wiggins actaully took some really good grabs when he came on. I hope we keep him. i know there are alot of people on this board who bag the hell out of him but i really like the way he goes about his football. To me he seems to have put on a bit of beef and provides us with another option either up forward or in defence. I really believe he will blossom in the next year or 2.

He won't blossom into much. We're gonna be drafting a lot of talented youngsters this off-season and Wiggins will be one player to make room.

you're are entitled to think that but I believe Pagan likes Wiggo and is willing to perserve with him for another year or 2. There are plenty of players at Carlton i would get rid of before Wiggins.

Too Right
And he also got a fair knock to the head during the game

like who? We're gonna use our pp, 1st rp, 2nd rp, 3rd rp, 4th rp and 1st PSD pick ATLEAST. Can you actually name 6 players worse than Wiggins?
