He actually looks a bit like Will Slade, no wonder Healy loves him so much. I hope it doesnt cost Will his spot on the list, would make for a rollercoaster day for Pat.

I think you are wrong Mr Bulletproof. Will and Nathan will be awesome in the same team. The club knows this, I have e-mailed them about it. I think Ben shoul go to America. We don't need him now, Nathan at CHF, Will at BP and Otto at FF.

C'MON THE MIGHTY CATS GIVE NATHAN 5!

Cats lower expectations

Geelong has secured the second son of club great Gary Ablett – Nathan Ablett – who will be drafted under the father/son rule at the upcoming National Bank AFL Draft.

The younger brother of current Geelong player Gary Ablett jnr, Nathan Ablett has agreed to join the Cats and they will use their third round selection – No.48 overall – to secure the highly-rated youngster.

“We have always said that if Nathan wanted to pursue his career with Geelong we would welcome him to the club,” Geelong coach Mark Thompson told gfc.com.au.

“Nathan has decided that he wants to play and we are looking forward to him joining our club.

“There is no doubt that because of his family connection there will be high expectations from some members of the public for the young man to come in and be a ready-made AFL footballer. Like the many young players that have joined our club in recent years, we will not be rushing Nathan’s progress.”We will work with him to develop his fitness, skills and all around game in the same way as we have with the likes of Andrew Mackie, Mark Blake, Corey Enright, Matthew Spencer and Tom Lonergan who have been developed in the VFL in their initial seasons.

“Any expectation that Nathan will come into the team quickly are unreasonable and unfair to both Nathan and the club, and we hope that everybody understands this.”

Thompson also dismissed any thoughts that Ablett’s junior career would restrict his development.

“It’s not imperative to have come through traditional under-18 pathway to be a player. We have the likes of Andrew Mackie, Jarad Rooke, Matthew McCarthy and Corey Enright that played most or all of their junior careers outside the under-18 competitions.

“Nathan has talent and ability and we believe with the coaching that we will give him he will develop in time into a good player for us.”

Ablett joins a number of players that have followed their fathers to Geelong. Ablett’s brother Gary has just completed his third AFL season with the Cats, while Matthew Scarlett, Tim Callan, and Mark Blake were snared under the father-son rule. Matthew McCarthy’s father also played with the Cats, however he was not secured under the father-son rule.

Ablett will wear the number 23 jumper for Geelong.

Absolutely wrapped that this has eventually happened and Nathan has agreed to play with the cats. It is also good to see that the club have come out straight away and announced that he will be wearing No. 23, might go and get it put on my jumper straight away!

How convenient - I won't even have to change the number on my guernsey now that Daniel Foster's gone! ;)

Poor old Foster, probably hasn't even cleaned out his locker and they've gone and given it away! I think I can forgive 'em!
