What are the different style rules for people who wish to win the cash or for those such as myself who are more interested in the private league. I like to see coaches here give tips and show the differences. I haven't seen many tips for the Private Leagues to be honest. It would be interesting.

Hey yeah im in the same boat i have a league with some mates we play for decent prize money and the glory.

I would assume trades are even more important, saving them for say finals time would be very important.

These first three weeks would be less inportant seeing as tho the head to heads haven't started yet.
Im currently scoring very well and on top of the ladder going into the head to heads...i have a major issue with my backline rookies, but im probably going to ride it out because its not hurting me to badly and i'll save the trades.

I'm using the first four trades to upgrade what is a pretty average midfield. After that I'm going to see how things go. I have been 2nd, 6th in the Pre-Season. Last week was terrible all through the week. Expecting a bounce back match.

I'm no expert on this... But my way of thinking is;

Overall Prize:
Goal: Score as many points as possible EACH week!

  • Must have at least 25 players playing round 1.
  • Combination of guns and solid scoring cash cows.
  • Players missing 2 or more games must be traded (except some cows).
  • Cannot choose many 'risky' or 'speculative' players.
  • Captain choice is crucial!

Private League:
Goal: Have all your players peak in rounds 20-22
  • Save 6 trades for finals.
  • Look for players in a slump and trade them in while cheap.
  • Don't pick players from teams that will rest stars for finals.
  • You can afford to sit injured players for a few weeks and save a trade.
  • Can afford to score low during the year and ride player slumps.
  • Having players like Goddard or Hodge/Lewis in round 1 is not as big a problem as they will come good crunch time. Also, your opponents are less likely to have them.
  • **This is assuming you selected a good enough starting team to make the 8.
I'm sure other people have some clever ideas...

We have a guy in our league who has finished in the top 100 two years running. He's also made the grand final in our league both years.

I'm not convinced that there is a different strategy for winning the whole thing and winning your league. I guess it depends on your league. I think the key thing is to chase money and keep as much of your team healthy as possible.

Perhaps when you play an opponent and your side has better depth. When picking a Captain, pick the same captain as him (if you have that player).

For example, if your opponent has Cox and has had him captain every week, you pick Cox as your Captain. If Cox scores 166 it doesn't matter but if you had chose someone else who scored 33 you would be stuffed.

So in other words you back your better fringe player to get you over the line.

Here is my take on it.

Private league: No need to worry too much about cash cow investments. Just trade in the best player possible if you need to trade. Limit trades early on and trade more towards the end of the season, keeping a few for finals. Trading later in the season allows you to make better decisions, because you can base players form over a longer period of time.

Overall: Take risks. Get plenty of cash cows early on. Use your 2 trades at the end of round 2. Keep an eye on breakevens. Once it looks as if a cash cow has peaked, trade him out. Alternatively, if a player has had a good first 2 weeks and looks set to make big money (like Dean Polo did late in 2006 i think it was) then trade a cash cow to get that player. The way I lookat it is use 11-13 trades getting money rom cash cows and then use the remaining trades using that money. If you make 100k from 12 cash cow trade, there is 1.2mil. Using that money to upgrade 8 players throughout the year will bring you huge scores by the end of the season. If you make the league finals, its a bonus, because you will be in a better position to win (although you should have less trades left in the bank in case of an emergency)

Honestly, I don't see too much of a difference.

The trick to winning it all is to use your trades in a way that will give you your *best* possible team by roughly round 12.

Then ride this team for the next 10 weeks.

Provided that a team that is pumping it by round 12, can get enough wins on the board to secure a spot in the top 8, then you should be able to have a huge crack at taking it all out.
