Every side has different tiers of players..... check their salaries for a start. To expect Ben Lennon to play like Dustin Martin is just plain stupid. To expect blokes to give effort, is another matter.

If DH or any other coach thinks that every player on his list is capable of being the best player in the team at the same time, he's delusional. However, DH doesn't as evidenced by his comments. Incidentally, players know where they sit compared to other players and they work hard to improve that rating. On that night, DH didn't think Ellis and Conca were doing the things that would push them into the top category and said so.... no brainer

I dont expect Lennon to play like Martin.... but i would expect him to be treated as if he is as important as martin. Every player should be treated as just as important to the side.
I remember reading an article by Alean Jeans .... he basically said that every player running on to the ground needs to know that they are the most important player on the ground.... putting them on different shelves is stupid. Expecting player to play bit roles is stupid.... its a team first type philosophy.
I think one of the biggest problems that have held this club back is our hierarchy type crap that has been ingrained in the playing group over a long time

I agree with the part of every player feeling important and they are, they all need to do their part... go when it's their time to go, block when it's their turn etc... but Lennon could never (in 2014) be expected to to perform Martin's job (as you said) but that doesn't make him less important.... It does mean that as a player, he is on a different level to Martin though. What's wrong with that? He's on a different tier.... he knows it and we know it. Doesn't mean he can't contribute and learn and one day with enough hard work, maybe he could be as good or better than Martin. I have no problems with coaches challenging players to do just that like he did with Ellis/Conca....

I just have a huge issue with a coach labeling players second tier... we will have to disagree. ... putting acid a on a player after a loss is also a no no in my book. Win together ....lose together....
You sought the men from the boys behind closed doors.

Ive heard he say we are better than last season....
IMO we have a better list than we did last year, problem is we're not performing as well as we did last year.

Ok agree to disagree re the 2nd tier. Putting the acid on players in public depends on how it is done in my book. Blight called Pittman pathetic in 1997 or 98.... that's a bit too far for me!

Ellis and Conca I didn't have a huge problem with although I didn't watch the game in great detail having been in the middle of a cricket grand final celebration so I'm not sure what they're actual output was that night.

I agree about the real home-truths been done behind closed doors but I didn't his comments were too bad from memory.

Which is only excusable if we learn from it.... I'm a solid member in the keep DH group but if we do this again next year, he won't have lasted until round 15.... and that would be the right decision in my eyes.

Great post on Pre guys. I thought I'd share it with you all
From the thread.
Re why supporters are not turning up-great responses on this thread

Yep, I've dropped off.
The game is unattractive and Richmond are stuffed.
And they don't know or won't face the truth of how stuffed they are.
And for sure that's p!issing me off big time.

1/. Don't like the game as a spectacle; the endless stoppages and keepings off circle work is boring and annoying.
2/. Hardwick is culpable big time in this area. Where last year we went forward on the attack, this year we go backwards first, sideways second and forward almost as a last resort. It's coyote ugly, and ineffective.
3/. I hate that I hate our game plan, and that is seems our players are also frustrated with it. Hardwick is slowly grinding them down and coaching the instinct out of them with his boring, robotic negativity.
4/. I think his man management is poor - playing players injured and breaking them down is unforgiveable. I have never forgiven Frawley for destroying Mark Coughlan by continuing to play him with OP until he was useless. Can see Hardwick doing the same.
5/. Our list management is woeful. Not just the back up has been rookies that are now best 22, the ones the genuises let go: Jay Shultz, Matty White, even Derickx (25 year old) vs Orren (32 and slow as a wet week).
Francis Jackson has a poor record after round 1 - when are we going to do do something about this?!
6/. Hardwick has the wrong vision for the team, the wrong game plan, is conservative with selections favouring older poor performers over young up and comers, and is reactive on match day. He is the problem, not the solution.
Now he says he is not going to gift players games (read continue to starve young players of opportunities), in essence not stop the flogging of dead horses like Morris and put them away till next year.
This is so not the way to go - it just ensures we get absolutely nothing from this year, and potentially lose kids who cant get a fair go at years end.
Why persist with the personel that got us in this position in the first place? Why not find out about Helbig, Arnot, Elton and co?
It took Hardwick an eternity to work out Miles probably deserved a game after 10 straight BOG's in the two's, and lo and behold the kid surprises no-one but Hardwick by cutting it in the big league.
You'd reckon that might embolden him to take the smallest of risks and try another kid or two?
Nah, not our Damien, keep persisting with Pettard and Thomas, that's going to win us our next premiership for sure.

Sadly, Hardwick is the Pim Verbeek of AFL coaching.
Has been found out big time this year - the emperor has no clothes.
Richmond are full of earnest nice guys but without the footy nous required to make the tough and right decisions.
All our brains trust have said in the past 6 weeks is that they have no idea why the wheels have fallen off. Jeezus H Christ!
That would be hilarious if it wasn't so serious.
I am having a rest until someone in authority starts talking like they get what the problems are, and start doing something about it.

Mathematical means just that. If we win the remaining 9 games, we finish 12-10. If results went our way we could make the finals. Obviously that won't happen but mathematically it is possible. It seems that you don't quite understand the difference between mathematically and probably.

If you did it weeks ago (say 3) our best case scenario would be 15-7 in which case we would clearly make finals. Anyway no I don't think we will make finals and I'm sure RT didn't either but don't let the fact that you don't understand the meaning of words stop you from potting other posters....
Wow.
I bet you never thought this would happen!

Looking back in the thread I reckon I have found the answer for us next year when it comes to winning the flag, we all have to stop believing that we can do it. I posted in mid-late June that I thought our season was over and we'd likely end up with a pick in the 7-10 range. Thankfully we went on one hell of a winning streak and got into the 8. Must say if faced with the same situation again I wouldn't expect us to repeat the deal, but I guess that is why we play games rather than just going with predictors and what the stats say on paper.

Wow.

I have honestly expected to us fall over at virtually every hurdle (certainly the Bombers, Adelaide and Sydney) and I was dubious about our WCE chances.... I've never witnessed this sort of resilience from the Tigers in my lifetime. I'm not sure how to deal with it! So I put $50-75 on the opposition each week and we keep winning.... worthwhile investment imo...

Only another $200-300 to go and we get a flag. Get those bets on man.

I still can't believe I suggested to somebody to take a parlay bet on us if they believed it.
I certainly gave it zero chance
Wish I had taken the bloody parlay.

Very wise decision in the end. If we never extended his contract the media would've been circling like vultures over those first 13 rounds. The pressure on Dimma would've been immense and there's every chance he would've gone into self preservation mode. Instead the club extended his contract and backed him in when the media took stabs at him. There was never a huge campaign by the media to sack Dimma because the club dismissed the idea so unequivocally. If he never got that contract extension then the media and fans* would've been baying for blood.

They made the right move.

*Many fans were still calling for his head

Imo I think this is taking the statement a little too literal, but that's just me.
It's a common statement from coaches made in public. We need more from our second-tier players if we want to contend.

And I'm sure they have the conversation with players as we'll...you're developing nicely but to be elite you need to improve this, this and this.
