Please, are there any Saint footy commuters? Coming from Ringwood for our Sat. match against the Dons at Casey. There's an Invicta 665 bus to Dandy. Where and how then to get to Cranbourne, or as preferably as close as poss. to the ground itself ? The "good oil" would be greatly appreciated.

Can't locate a Melways?

Cranbourne is at the end of the M1, head towards Sydney, don't turn off at Heatherton Road towards Warragul, take the old highway past Dandenong to Cranbourne.

I have enlisted some help for you

From Dandenong Station take the Cranbourne line train to the end of the line (ie Cranbourne Station), then catch the TrainLink bus to the Cranbourne and ask the driver to drop you at the closest stop to Casey Fields. There is then a footpath along Clyde Road to Casey Fields (about a 1km walk).

Here's better info from the vflfooty site (posted in December 2005 to put it in context):

Bus route 896 runs from the Cranbourne Station. In an area which doesn't have much public transport, this is one of the best bus routes around. It was introduced a couple of years ago in (temporary?) substitution of a 1999 election promise to extend the railway line to Cranbourne East and build a new railway station. The bus meets every train at Cranbourne Station (and then takes passengers to Cranbourne East as far as the Casey Indoor Leisure Complex). This includes on the weekend (for example on Sundays the bus starts running before 7am and finishes after midnight). Here is the link to timetables:

The CILC (Mel 134 C6) is about 1km away from Casey Fields (Mel 134 E7). As a comparison the MCG is about 600 metres away from the Richmond Station. A footpath goes most of the way to Casey Fields from the CILC, and by the time the first match is played it will extend for the full distance.

For the future, an attempt will be made to have the State Government extend bus route 896 to Casey Fields (at least on days when there are matches).

With the current comments during October from the State Government bureaucrats there seems little chance of the railway line being extended to Cranbourne East in the next few years (although it was promised by the Labor party in the 1999 election campaign). The "Trainlink" bus service is the "Claytons" train. We need the government to extend the bus service to Casey Fields when there are events on. This shouldn't be too much of a challenge because there is flexibility in the timetable. The only issue is the funding of it (which should just be a bit of fuel & wear & tear on the bus for a 2km extra addition to the current route, as driver and bus are already funded). However, bureaucratic intransigence may yet find a reason why this can't occur.

This arrangement would in fact provide a better service to Casey Fields than an extension of the train line because it will take passengers right to the door.

He's a Hawks supporter and they are playing Essendon at Casey Fields.

It's a little disappointing that we couldn't have played there and built on our relationship with the Scorpions but as somebody who lives on the other side of Melbourne I'm very happy going to Princes Park tonight. :thumbsu:
