Disgraceful

It’s not the players fault; they have been conditioned to play that style of football for 5 years now.

Don’t blame the players, blame the coach. He’s the one who sets the game plan; he’s the one who tells them where to run and where to kick the ball.

Someone has to tell Neil Craig we stink and so does his defensive tactics. It’s time to remove the shackles and let them play natural instinctive football.

That's crap; 05/06/09; we were one of the highest scoring teams in the Comp by a fair margin.

If you honestly think Craig is telling them to play like this, you're crazy.

Lethal Leigh Matthews for coach....the club needs a shake up ala Blighty....the "boys club" mentality has to stop ..Craigy...enough said..,,Mother Hart,,,Boy next door Bicks,,,Clarke..(great players..but too bloody nice)...Noble..(only premiership coach in the box.."reseves bulldogs..1998..wow..).Viney..????...the only other team from going from a top 4 team to duds are the Hawks,,,a coincidence ..i think not.. here was a great interview with katrina gill speaking to Craigy.. 7th of december ....Q...Training is always pretty tough around here, but are you doing anything differently this pre-season?
A..Training has been tough. It’s been really tough but that’s the way we’ve decided we need to do it, rightly or wrongly. We think rightly. Other people think wrongly, but that’s okay. We got a model in terms of what we have to do to get the result we want because we’ve made a decision not to deliberately bottom out, which has an effect on the talent you get in your club. We have to do it differently and one of the things we have to look at is the way we train. It is a demanding environment and even now, just three weeks in to pre-season training our players are very tired. They should be too because of the workload we’re exposing them to. They’ll get a lighter week next week and then we’ll build it up again. It is important training is demanding because once the season starts the reality is that the amount of training we can do is minimal compared to what we can do now.
Starting from Triggy...get out the broom...bring some life(mongrel)back ....

Yet he has been unable to do anything about it. Seriously If NC wanted it to stop he should have made it stop by now. Surely he has team rules.

Source please?

Very interesting statements. A direct question to follow up on this right now would be handy to see if we get the same answer. An admission of mistakes made might be a refreshing thought that could signal a change of intentions.

I agree Allfgib...the source was from afl.com...the title was "neil craig..one on one"..mon 7th dec 09..new to this so not sure how to forward link...i can post the entire interview if you want...

Bock is driving me nuts. You just know that he will not kick the ball forwards.

Van Berlo isn't much better.

Totally agree with you about Bock. Even when he had the ball 60m out from our goal he was looking sideway straight away and not even looking forward. Instead of the backline players running to the back pocket for the easy kick, why don't they run into the space forward of the ball.

if it's the coach why is it that some defenders always look to play on (Stiffy, Stevens) and some don't (Doughty)?

Sorry King Elvis dont wont to take any blame of players but Craig defenitely has them playing this zone crap and possesion side back s--t as it is mainly the experienced ones doing it and they are getting the gold passes still .
Like Vader posted bl---y Bock doesnt look sideways he looks backwards every time and last year broke lines with runs and penetrating kicks and Doughty is no better with VB just behiond these are all team leaders.
Look what happened when we got the ball in there quickly Walker done the job and we had a real effort for awhile .
But guess what we had a slight smell of a chance so what did we do chip around again . WHAT THE HELL.
But lets not forget the players or shall we call them kick chasers as sure as hell not footballers as we all know the things footballers do go and they get the ball or tackle strongly if they have ball . Ok you may not have a immediate player you chase into open attacking areas but surely someone has to be responsible for that person running into fwd 50 free isnt that why have thses zones . What about simple aspect of getting on defensive side of ruck structures again especially in goal square.
Agree with original post a lot of it comes down to attitude and you cant convince me that Tippett and Vince have right do whatever they can to win attitude . Have they both got ahead of their achievements and maybe need a reminder how average they are playing with no impact that
top players should have .
It was posted a while ago but a lot of our problems come down to attitude and arrogance.
Why you say

A - Jobs for the boys , You will have trouble convincing me that Hart , Bickley and Clark are the best avail. ass. coaches out there .

B -- Why did we not least ask 1-2 of our 30 + to retire and why not trade to cover some glaring deficiency.

C -- Recruiting I believe been arrogant in our recruiting in allowing Rendell to recruit his list rather than to needs of club espec. to cover 30+ plyrs plus true running type footballer players .

D-- Game plan worked well last year away we go and go and go 1-7 still away we go
E -- Fitness agenda still not blaming this regime for any of our injuries

F -- Lost 4- 0 and onwards and until Burton decision no hard decision was made on any senior player .

G -- A lot of our star senior players because of how good they were got away with no real defensive side to their game Like Macca , Goody Edwards , Burton and maybe this has spread through club .

Anyway thats my thoughts on a season that promised so much delivered so little . Us as supporters also got things easy over years and the club with so good support and backing got it too easy as well

Game plan, team strategy, team role, skill set. A number of different reasons why they chose to do what they do, however over time they have been conditioned to play that way
