I was around at my parents the other day and noticed my dad's computer lacked any kind of 'texture' on his screen.

I have no idea what is causing it, and had a quick fiddle, but couldn't find anything.

I'll put up a screenshot of both of their computers so you guys can see the difference, and hopefully tell me how to fix it.

Both machines from the screenshots are running XP.

In that case, you're both using Mozilla Firefox. Both the same versions?

Try

Tools > Options, select the "Content" tab, and check "Load images automatically."

Also try running Firefox in it's safe mode and see if the pictures load then as it could be add-ons.

looks like they're both using different screen resolutions. try increasing the screen resolution to see if that helps.

Try this mate...

go to: Tools menu -> Options -> Content tab
then under "Fonts & Colours" press Colours...

where it says: "Allow pages to choose their own colours, instead of my selections above"
make sure that is ticked.

Hopefully that will fix it, if it's unticked?

Also looks similar to when you have high contrast accessibility settings being used (although it affects the whole screen). So if the above doesn't work, could also maybe look into that area perhaps? Not really sure there sorry mate.

Hopefully will be the first one though - Yahoo looks the same for me as your screenshot when I untick that.

I have tried all of those possible solutions, and still nothing.

Everything you guys suggest was already done.

I might also mention it is not a problem that is exclusive to Firefox. It also occurs in IE.
