either SMS was missing a heap or they're just rubbish. no one at Hoes is getting carried away with a pre-season victory... we played well and will be better for the run, but the opposition really didn't offer much.

Bring on round 1!

It's hard to get the toothpaste back in the tube Ivanhoe.... The lid is well and truly off!

Righto - 2012 pre-season premiership ladder:

1. Ivanhoe - Smashing sides in grades above them.
2. Yarra Valley - Massive numbers on the track.
3. Aquinas - Crickets
4. Old Westbourne - Crickets
5. Kew - Rumors of massive numbers, clubbies and solid recruiting.
6. Elsternwick - Crickets
7. UHS-VU - Rumors of retirements, massive numbers on the track and clubbies.
8. Hawthorn - Lost a bunch of vets, massive numbers on the track and plenty of tweets.
9. Powerhouse - Everyone else is writing them off... Lost their superstar ruckman.

I can't talk about RC...

12 team Div mate, you left out St Francis & AP

Wamba how did you come to the conclusion that Hawthorn would be finalists this year? They won the last game of the year last season to narrowly avoid relegation remember?

Are you suggesting they've stopped stacking their reserves side now that their counterparts in West Brunswick are in D4? That would be a bold suggestion indeed.

Stacking the reserves - what a load of horse manure - where do you guys come up with this crap.
8 or 9 new players in the 1s this week......bring on Round 1.....

from memory hawthorn had heaps of "ins" on the transfer list. Doesn't mean any of them can play though...

They're a team that with a few handy inclusions could push up the ladder, they seem to play well on their home ground, so with that advantage they can upset sides above them.

Still hard to see them making finals on the back of last year.

"1. Ivanhoe - Smashing sides in grades above them."
beat 1 side from D2 that would struggle to win a game in D3...

Yarra would have to be favourites of the teams from D3 last year, beat the Hoes in the finals and late in the season at their ground. Can't say I know much about the new sides...

Only a hunch Oi without really knowing the teams.

A new coach and a few players in from country and suburban leagues which could mean a physical contest on their small ground which not every side in this comp would cope with.

It's good that it starts tomorrow and we can make proper judgements from now on.

If the season finished today...

1. Ivanhoe - Smashing sides in grades above them.
2. Yarra Valley - Massive numbers on the track.
3. Aquinas - Crickets

5. Kew - Rumors of massive numbers, clubbies and solid recruiting.
6. Elsternwick - Crickets
7. UHS-VU - Rumors of retirements, massive numbers on the track and clubbies.
8. Albert Park - Know a thing or two about Powerhouse and vice versa.
9. Hawthorn - Lost a bunch of vets, massive numbers on the track and plenty of tweets.
10. SFX - Lost by 24 goals to Mazenod on the weekend. Cant be good for morale.
11. Powerhouse - Everyone else is writing them off... Lost their superstar ruckman.
12. Richmond Central - No news to report.

In defence of SFX Bigwaz, Mazenod are tipped to be the side to beat in C Grade. You'd expect them to belt any side in this division.

Don't think the issues of the last few weeks would have helped? Who is coaching SFX this week given the coach is on a "break"? and agree Maz should beat D3 sides by plenty if they are tipped to be in the C grade mix.

Mazenod recruited a RC player this offseason who's been picked in their senior side.

Bizzaro World.

Here we go for 2012 and with plenty of unknowns about some of the teams, selections in the first week or two, or even three, is just guesswork. So with that being said:

Aquinas vs St Francis Xavier
Elsternwick vs Richmond
Ivanhoe vs Albert Park
Hawthorn vs UHS-VU
Power House vs Yarra Valley
Kew vs Old Westborne

And no, I didn't just pick all the home teams, but they all do have an advantage in Round 1 !

Who knows????

Aquinas vs St Francis Xavier - at home I would think Aquinas by 19 points. I think both these teams will be in the final 5.

Elsternwick vs Richmond - Wicks at home on the small ground. that being said have been slow starters in the past and Big waz sent me a pm saying 'get on the tigers this year chump'. Wicks by 3 points.

Ivanhoe vs Albert Park - Hoes by 11 points. A little bit of rain will could make this a bit closer. The two teams have matched up well on each other in the past and as such this will be close, but Hoes to get the win at home.

Hawthorn vs UHS-VU - Flip! Hawks - only because at home and that a few good players look to have moved on from UHS-VU in the off season. But who knows??? Hawks by 1 point.

Power House vs Yarra Valley - I think Yarra will be the team to beat this year and as such feel they have the team to get the away win in this one. Yarra by 39 points.

Kew vs Old Westborne - Flip again! But, OW coming down from the higher grade is the only thing I can go on at the moment. they will have too much for Kew and win buy a couple - 12 points.

Good luck to all.

Chump

Aquinas vs St Francis Xavier - No idea, Aquinas by 30 points.

Elsternwick vs Richmond - It will be quite a shock for the RC players who haven't played at the Wicks home ground before. Wicks by 24 points.

Ivanhoe vs Albert Park - Depends on which Hoes side turns up, could go either way but if the good Hoes come, lock them in by 30 points.

Hawthorn vs UHS-VU - Traditional D3 rivals, no one likes playing at the Hawk's nest. Hawks by 28points.

Power House vs Yarra Valley - Big footy has taught me over the years, the less news you hear about a team in preseason, the more trouble their in. So Yarra by 50 points.

Kew vs Old Westborne - OW drew with Albert Park a couple of weeks ago who no one rates, so it must be Kew by 20 points.

SENIORS
Aquinas to beat SFX by 43 points. Aquinas will be right up there this year. One of the teams to beat.

Elsternwick to get up over the Snakes in a tight contest at the stamp. 4 points.

Hoes will give Albert Park a lesson and win by 60 points.

Hawks will open their account at home over Uni High. 12 points.

Yarra Valley will win by plenty. Up to 80 points. Nothing less than top 2 for the Bushrangers.

Kew to get up over OW. No idea how much though. I'll have a crack at 16 points. Bloody long drive home too.

RESERVES
Aquinas over SFX by 15
Snakes over Wicks by 32
Hoes over Albert Park by 45
Hawks over Uni by 21
Yarra over House 39
Bears over OW by 1

1 more sleep. I'm excited.

Go Hawks!

Good to be underway. A few things to come out of Round 1:

My hunch about Hawthorn appears way off the mark but Uni High's stocks have risen. Also, Watts is playing contrary to Uni High to misleading posts from Uni High.

Yarra Valley are the early favorites. Expect the same as last year. Lots of switches in defence, quick ball movement by foot and strength across every line.

The regular suspects popped up for the Wicks in Hunter and Grace. A tough start for the Centrals.

Aquinas blew away St Francis early but St Francis came back well so hard to tell on that one.

Same with the Hoes and Albert Park. Neither side great nor terrible. Ex Swinburne gun Murchie was back causing problems up forward.

Kew have had a huge win so maybe they've included some real quality this year. Conversely bad signs for Westbourne.

Bring on round 2.

Still keen on Old Westbourne?

...it's so quiet on here boys...for goodness sakes somebody SAY SOMETHING!

Is anyone there?

Where is Kimduthiefan when you need him...hopefully not banned again!

Two days after Round 1 and no one has posted anything!

I went and saw my new boys Kew smash the suitcases out of Westbourne. Too strong all over the ground and Westbourne looked unfit and tired by mid 3rd quarter when they fell away badly! (in a nutshell...they were really crap)

I'm not certain whether it was Kew's good play or Westbournes hopelessness ...

Another opportunity to hear the ripper Kew club song...
