So is the general consensus that Melbourne have been given enough help recently, but have stuffed it up themselves?
Hammer, meet nail.

Melbourne have gotten priority picks. Their coach is being paid for by the AFL, after they got fined for tanking, which incurred a grand penalty of **** all. They don't deserve any more help.

For me it's not even the argument presented above. It's the fact that, several months ago, the media and footballing world alike were kneeling down and kissing Roos' feet for turning the Melbourne football club around. Their defensive pressure for large portions of almost every match was fantastic and the turnaround phenomenal. They were troubling a lot of teams that supporters and neutrals would have thought genuinely impossible at the start of the year. It is truly ridiculous that this same team be granted compensation for being poor over a long period of time, when they've improved beyond most people's wildest imaginations this year.

I genuinely feel for the supporters and hope their nightmare ends soon, but Melbourne jumped light years forward this season. With a young team with poor habits so ingrained, there is going to be inconsistency, there are going to be relapses, and there are going to be a lot of very long days for a few years yet. But the club is showing improvement. Last year they managed to bring in Vince, Cross, Tyson, Salem, Riley, Michie, Kennedy-Harris and Georgiou, who all look to have something to offer, without any sort of priority pick. One or two more off-seasons even half as good as that, plus the continued improvement that we saw this year, and they will be on the up in a big way.

I'm actually disappointed in the club for requesting assistance, if I'm honest. The first thing they need to do is shed the, "We need help," mentality; not run to the AFL as soon as they have a down month. It's not a good look.
