Do we take Sellar at pick #8, if available?

Roughhead looks a likely type. I know he's played mainly in defence so far in his career, but he's got power forward written all over him. Franklin aint bad either. They are not especially desperate for key position players, no more than many other teams. Croad's still young and they have a couple of Beaus they picked up high in the last draft.
Franklin's not even a KP, he's like Josh - You're better off just letting him do what he does, and in the end, you come out on top for having played him.

As for Roughead, he's not really the power type. He is a legit KP, but he's closer to Nick Riewoldt than Jonathan Brown in style.

Agree on Beau Dowler - I'd forgotten about him a bit, but Beau Muston isn't a KP at all. I still think they'll be looking for a KP in the draft though - All of their fans seem to be confident of that, and Clarkson has talked up Sellar amongst others in interviews.

Why do people think he is a ruckman, but not Gumbleton or Hansen, who are both taller than him, or Mitch Thorp, who is the same height?

Gumbleton has even played ruck at underage level, just like James Sellar.

However, neither of them are likely to be ruckmen at AFL level - Both ARE likely to be CHFs.

Maybe they've been reading what you wrote on 22/8/06:

"Sellar is more ruckman/less KP in comparison with Kosi.

His ratio of ruck to KP is more in line with someone like Josh Fraser."

A) That's from 3 months ago, and I've seen more of him since, and spoken to people who've seen a LOT more of him.

B) I still don't think what I said rules him out of being an almost full time KP. The point I was making is that he isn't strapped to the ruck any more than the other guys who are essentially equally as physical capable of playing it.

I just view Kosi as being purely a KP player, and not a ruckman at all, and I don't think Sellar is quite that pure. He's still likely to spend a large majority of his time up forward, as I believe Josh would in a perfect world.

shows how quickly things can change
I didn't have as much info on him then as I do now - That was before I'd seen as much of him playing, and before draft camp.

I had expected him to measure taller than 195cm at DC, but seeing him play in the SANFL, he's clearly capable of being a full-time key forward.

A lot has been said about the possibility that Sellar could be the slider of the top 7 fancies, mainly due to his poor U18 champs. Most will know that he was really crook during the champs. This could be a little stroke of luck for us.

I'm asking Pie fans if he's available at pick #8 do we take him?

I'm a big believer in best available in the 1st round, Sellar was a possible pick #1 at the start of the year.
yeah people were rating him higher than gibbs at the start of the year, if i were the pies i would address the midfield problem and then move on to the KPP later on in the draft. i hope he slips to 11 bc everyone is saying he will end up a dog, i hope this is true!

Collingwood should definately consider Sellar at 8 if available.
Would be foolish to lock themselves into taking solely mids when the midfield talent pool is thinner. That said, with the majority of early picks being talls, Collingwood will have first crack at the best mids (excluding Gibbs obviously and possibly Selwood). Pies will definately call for time at 8!

I can't be bothered finding my post from a couple of weeks ago, but I did pick Sellar to slide, just not as far as he did. In my mock 1st round I had him going to the Bulldogs at 11.
