Ok i won't mention the name yet but here is a story that is true.
Friend of mine got a heap of quotes for an EXTENSION. Went with the best he thought. After the contract was signed and a price agreed upon the company realisedthe drawings needed modification.

Bottom line = another $6000 odd for the job.

Now given the plans as previously presented prior to the contract being signed were unworkable, am i the only one who feels they are trying to rip my mate off. He wants out of the contract,no work has been done but now it goes to court. What do you all think? This company churns out renovations like its a FACTORY, if you know what i mean.

Sounds like they are breaking the contract unless your mate didnt get expert advice on the contract.
This sounds like the building industry full of crooks(no not all but lots of managers not the blue collar workers) and any industry is like this when a boom is present.

Dodgy, dodgy, dodgy. I know of several stories, (mainly from subbies), who have worked for such a company that would churn out extensions like a FACTORY.

Thanks, interesting to hear that a high profile company can keep its profile up through advertising. If it only spent a bit on customer service!

I don't think the company has a leg to stand on. They are in breach of contract if they have to redraw the design and charge for it. The only chance they have is if there is a clause in there that lets them do it.

Interestingly though, I note that "one such company" gets people to pay for the extension before it has council approval. I wonder if they all do that. Seems a bit strange. Maybe that's where the modifications come from.

Did mine earlier this year. Mind bender when you are doing it, but in hindsight a very interesting subject.
