Although it seems a great idea to get Rawlings, I just keep thinking about how we've tried so many times in the last few years to recruit an established forward and it hasn't worked.

Do these names ring any bells:
Spinx, Mitchell White, Jason Mooney, even Cam Mooney hasn't really done much. Kent Kingsley would be good if they gave him a chance.

Anyway, I'd much rather see us keep our draft picks and continue to develop blokes like McCarthy and Playfair

True, our quest for a forward hasnt been so successful in recent years BUT Geelong must continue to seek out an experienced forward. Although I agree that we must also continue to blood our young forwards (McCarthy, Playfair, Lonergan, Mackie) we need an experienced forward (ala Rawlings, Bradshaw..etc.) to help out the kids. Although we have planned for future success, for that success to take place, we need blokes like Rawlings to get into the club, play as the no.1 forward and relieve some pressure of the young guns. We need to achieve some sort of success in the immediete future to ensure membership, sponsers, supporters etc. remain with us.

These blokes; Spinks, Cam Mooney, Jason Mooney, Whitey, have not exactly been 'genuine recruits'. Think about it, Spinks, Moons, and Jason were all basically fringe players at previous clubs. Rawlings, on the other hand, is a genuine 1st class recruit.

Spot on.

In my mind, Rawlings will only prolong the agony of a missing forward line. He will stint the development of McCarthy and Playfair for potentially nothing (The possibility of injury, him not being happy etc...) tis a huge gamble, to say the least.

I just don't want us to be back in the same position because we haven't had the room to play Playfair and McCarthy in the side next year, or during the year. It would suck majorly.
