You and I have obviously had very different life experiences.

I've met plenty of younger people who can and do manipulate older people to get what they want.

The story is as you stated above.

TBF my life experience is probably broader and far more extensive than yours.

When you say you've met plenty of younger people who can manipulate older, are you talking about a father daughter relationship? Or just those that look like it?

Let's go back to the plan to tackle online harm.
As the Prime Minister said as part of the announcement today, the government will be working to combat male extremist views online.
In a detailed release from the Prime Minister's office it says this will be a pilot program, funded in the May budget.
So what does that look like?
  • The pilot will identify available age assurance products to protect children from online harm, and test their efficacy, including in relation to privacy and security.
  • There will also be new legislation will ban the creation and non-consensual distribution of deepfake pornography.
  • In addition, a new phase of the successful Stop it at the Start campaign will launch in mid-June and run until May next year, while will include a counter-influencing campaign in online spaces where violent and misogynistic content thrives.
  • The government will also undertake classification reforms which will examine options to reduce exposure to violent pornography, informed by engagement with experts and best available evidence about harms.
  • And finally, the government will also bring forward legislation in early August to outlaw the release of private information online with an intent to cause harm (known as doxxing), and overhaul the Privacy Act to give all Australians, particularly women who are experiencing domestic and family violence, greater control and transparency over their personal information.

No, I'm not talking about that dynamic.

I know of two middle aged men who were targetted by younger women. They manipulated them, took them for all they were worth then took off.

Whatever men are capable of, so too are women.

Which of course covers controlling or manipulate behaviour.

I don't see devious or cunning to be age related traits.

You may be right that she was being manipulated. Until that's established though it's simply heresay

Sounds a lot like actually (maybe) taking some stuff seriously that's been around for a while and known to be problematic.

Meanwhile, known - often repeat - offenders are out on bail. See whether the States do much on this front.

A teenage girl who was found dead in mysterious circumstances shared a child with the 32-year-old man who was arrested after her body was discovered.

Yolonda Mumbulla, 19, was found dead in her North Bondi unit on Tuesday morning after her partner Aaron Carey, 32, claimed to have found her not breathing.

I know people will jump to “don’t victim blame!” but is it worth figuring out why women are attracted to piece of s**t men?

For what it’s worth when MRA folk cry about a woman who is taking them to the cleaners in a divorce I have a similar response.

They don't see it, pos men hide it until they're on a hook. This becomes even more significant the younger the women are.
 
Anyway personally I take a holistic view on it all and the way I see it, the whole system is ****ed.

We spend hundreds of millions of dollars and waste police resources on a fake war on drugs while also losing billions in revenue by not legalising nice marijuana.

Let me smoke weed in peace and spend the money on catching and locking up bad guys please.

Yes it’s that simple.

Governments haven't really got behind harm minimisation. Voting members of the public also like the 'idea' of the whole zero tolerance thing. They don't want to think too hard about the failures and costs of it.

Seriously? They don't let the women and girls know they are pieces of s##t early on while dating. It starts off at a lower level then builds over time. That's why coercive control is so significant and harmful, and needs to be identified and punished as early as possible. And often pieces of s##t do drugs and give women and girls drugs, and the females then do things they wouldn't otherwise do so as to maintain the drug supply.

Girls hook up with bikies or some such w***er and are soon surprised when he isn't a nice guy... Then hang around thinking he'll change like he 'promised' the first 5x

As much education as men need (most of us actually don't need any but are bombarded with the messaging 'all men'), women need in recognising toxic relationships. I do believe this will be massively beneficial overall. This isn't 'victim blaming', it's reality

Many? I'd probably go with 'some'. Not many females are seeing bikies. And if you take drugs out of the equation even fewer would hook up with bikies (and other criminals). That said, there are obviously trash women just like there are trash men and these people tend to end up together.

'The one-off payment, which can be accessed through social service provider Uniting, is issued in the form of up to $1,500 in cash with the rest on a pre-paid card for goods and services.

To be eligible, an individual must be aged 18 years and have left or have a plan to leave an intimate partner violent relationship. Applicants must be an Australian citizen or temporary visa holder and be able to prove they are experiencing or at risk of financial stress.

They must also have experienced a change in living arrangement in the past 12 weeks.'

The federal government will invest $925m over five years to help women escape violent relationships and introduce new legislation to ban deep fake pornography under a suite of measures to combat high rates of gendered violence.
So the figure stated is not wholey supplimenting the provision of the 5,000 grant. You can bet a big portion will be chewed up in legislative costs.

“Today’s announcement merely makes an existing program that has been plagued with maladministration and delay, permanent,” Senator Waters said.
“To add insult to injury, the funding for leaving violence announced today won’t even flow until July 2025.”

'According to data released in a response to a question raised in senate estimates earlier this year, more than half of the over 50,000 Australians who applied for the escaping violence payment had their applications rejected between July and September 2023.'
Aside from the issues of a flawed program as signalled above, this is not a lot of money per DV applicant.
Think about it:
How far does $1,500 go when you need at least twice that for the bond on a rental.
What about a phone, if you've lost it or it has been taken from you.
Moving costs or storage or keeping your car on the road, keeping children fed, clothed in school.
DV and having to leave 'home' often means losing work, if not your job.
Is this enough money if you have to flee interstate to relatives, if you are lucky enough to have supportive family.

As usual we'll put hurdles in front of those most in need trying to access desperately needed resources, but have plenty of loopholes available for those with time and money.
