After yesterday's game I feel this young man deserves to spoken about a bit more.

(WA – Mid)
Height: 183cm, Weight: 82kg, DOB: 10/03/1995

Quite dominant against the tier 2 teams and then had a quiet game against Vic Metro. Came out against Vic Country and dominated with 28 possessions and 4 goals. Broke his collarbone at the end of the game by going in hard at a contest.

Knocks on him is that he is 'one paced' and even Shifter said that he was in the teens in regards to draft placings. From the looks of it he is a pure footballer and who ever gets him will have a good player IMO.

Such a gun, would love him at the dogs but just a bit worried about him being 'one paced' is he actually slow? Or just average.

We desperately need some speed.

WA jet Sheed wins Larke Medal

DOM SHEED was rewarded for his excellent NAB AFL Under-18 Championships by winning the Larke Medal for the best player in division one.

Sheed, Western Australia's captain, had a consistent four games and dominated his side's midfield, averaging 28 disposals.

His standout performance came against Vic Country in round four, when he gathered 29 disposals and kicked four goals in a match-winning display.

That was all before he was crunched in a heavy bump late in the contest, which resulted in a broken collarbone and forced him to miss WA's final game, against South Australia on Wednesday.

"It's a massive honour," Sheed told AFL.com.au.

"I wasn't expecting to be named the Larke medallist, and I definitely won't take it for granted. I wouldn't have got it without my teammates so a special thanks to those guys."

He said the injury was an unfortunate way to end the carnival but he felt he went out on a high note.

"It was a disappointing way to finish, especially with only a couple of minutes to go. But I was very happy for us to win after the siren," he said.

"It's only a collarbone, so obviously an ACL or something like that would have been a lot worse. After surgery you can get back in four weeks."

Sheed will have scans and see a surgeon when he returns to Perth on Thursday.

He follows Lachie Whitfield, last year's No.1 draft pick, in winning the prestigious award.

Meanwhile, Matthew Scharenberg and Luke Dunstan (South Australia), Mitch Honeychurch (Vic Metro), Zak Jones (Vic Country) and Clem Smith (Western Australia) were judged the most valuable player of their sides for the competition.

Agree we need a line breaker, but we need the best player at the pick we get.
What I saw over the champs he impressed me the most.

Midfield grunt is your least of your concerns in my opinion sheed has good footskills and genuine footballer but I would imagine Kelly or Scarenburg will suit your needs better

Agree, the player at our pick will be either Aish, Kelly, Scharenberg .
Best available I'd assume would be one of those .

I wouldn't be unhappy if Melbourne drafted this kid with pick 2 or 3. Looks like he has skill and guts something we need to add into our midfield.

You guys will end up with one of Boyd, Aish, Scharenberg or Kelly. Not sure taking Sheed so early would be wise.

I think Sheed is a good chance to go that high. Would more than likely be able to step straight in their best 22.

I agree. However, so would any other player they select with their pick. I think Aish/Kelly would probably be better suited in Melbourne's midfield than what Sheed would be.

Boyd - likely to go pick 1? Even if still available Melbourne may overlook due to already having Clark, Hogan, Dawes, Watts, Fitzpatrick and even Howe on our list who can all play KPF - 1) how many can you really have on your list, & 2) we desparately need mids and lots of them

Aish - seems like he will be very good but more outside than inside? Seems to be very much like Toumpas and may not be big enough to impact straight away, something we desperately need.

Scharenberg - another who seems to be more of a HB/HF utility rather than a pure midfielder. Seems as though he would play a role similar to Watts - again we desperately need mids who can go in the middle from day 1, not after a few years of development

Kelly - Very much an outside player who can rack up disposals at junior level but will probably take a few years to find his place against men.

Sheed just seems to me to be the pick of the mids this year - he's hard at the footy, can win his own ball, decent skills and can kick goals. Seems very much in the Selwood mould (not saying he is/will be as good just the type of player) and this is something MFC sorely needs.

It's interesting, Sheed is one of the best 'footballers' in this draft.

I think that's often overlooked in high picks in favor of upside.

I wouldn't be disappointed if we drafted him, hard nut, dual sided, good skill, can kick a goal, leadership credentials.

the next james kelly imo. except will kick more goals
