CARLTON coach Brett Ratten has admitted he was guilty in the past of putting too much emphasis on the opposition instead of the result.

Ratten said yesterday he made a conscious decision over summer not to elevate the importance of any game above others.

"Emotionally, you can get caught up," Ratten said.
