Is he out of contract?

Do we think he will be delisted?

Any chance he might make it to RFC via ND or PSD?

I remember hearing that we were interested in him and IIRC that he was out of contract and out of favour at Haw. I also remember (i think) that Dimma was apparently quite keen on him, rated him as a youngster who just hasnt had opportunities for one reason or another at Haw.

With Hale also being acqiured, would think that Dowler's Haw chances are even more limited now, further adding weight to the "Haw dont rate him" theory.

If we can get him cheaply in the ND/PSD then i am happy placing faith in Dimma and co if they rate him. Certainly could tick a fair few boxes for us, a young KPF would can assist Jack, highly rated youngster in his own right (who is still young) and who has kicked some bags when he has had the rare oppourtnity at Haw.

Also, IIRC, he was a massive richmond fan growing up.

Will be delisted, where if Dimma is keen could put him on the rookie list or late pick in the ND, is only 22 so is still eligable to be rookied.

See what happens!

Would be very keen to rookie him. Will probably come down to he or Miller. Whatever happens with Cloke will make a difference too.

They both can be rookied mate! Miller will go onto the Mature age rookie list while Dowler because he is under 23 he can be rookied under the standard list.

They changed the rules 2 years ago to allow players that were previously on a senior list to be rookied if they were under 23.

Some examples are Dave Gourdis (pre-season pick then rookied), Andrew McQualter (#17 draft pick from 04 was then rookied after being delisted then promoted agan)

Stop this nonsense. The guy is no good. Was involved in a severe car accident before he was drafted by the hawks and had some serious hip injuries.

Close thread. :thumbsd:

late PSD or rookie and i'd be pretty happy.

Actually, i'd probably lean towards late PSD because i do rate Dowler

Bad Call - misinformed, half truth call - have more faith in Dimma call

We all remember his car accident and the fact it took him a while to get back up and going. However, that is well and truly in the past, and i havent heard any snippet suggesting his body not being up to it as the reason behind his problems at Haw.

Mmmmmm...

"Him injuries" & then "snippet".........
Now I don't know, so was this deliberate? or were his injuries to the boys 'nether region' type area?????????

It's been a long trade week! :o

I understand the rules, I'm just saying I'd be surprised if we rookied both of them.

Clubs have 1 pick maximum in the PSD.

Rather him than Miller, he's got talent. Hawks have performed super poorly in regards to the whole situation, and the professionalism of their coaching staff has to be questioned.

Yeah yeah ok. That's what happens when you're at work and type fast so you don't get busted!!!!

Played against him as a junior - massive talent. Terrible run with injuries, but would make a great risk-free investment in the rookie draft. He'll never become the superstar he should have done, but he'll make a fine player if he can get his body right - particularly with the need for a bigger-bodied forward we've got at the moment.

Why not? Projected no. 1 draft pick who's had a bad run - surely a better prospect than someone totally speculative ala Relton Roberts or Majak Daw?
I don't rate him.

Just stick with Houli. We need a small forward with a nice kick more than anything

Houli isn't a small forward is he?

+ we had one... Andy Collins... but that's another story.

The club said he'll be playing forward with a bit of midfield, while Grigg will play midfield with a bit in defence. Makes sense really. With Collins gone we only have Nason, Hicks and Taylor as non key position forwards. These 3 have about 10 games between them. Houli will fill a hole and has good skills. Morton may go forward a bit more to with Grigg and Edwards on the wings. I guess Houli is Collins replacement

Dowler as a rookie pick is a no brainer IMO.

Perfect chance to give the bloke a chance with almost no risk. He is the type of player that if he comes good, will come good in a massive way, and be a huge plus for us.

Cant really see the down side risk - at worst, we waste a rookie pick, which is highly speculative anyway.

FWIW, i rated Dowler very highly as a junior and i reckon he has had a pretty bad run with injury and opportunity at Hawthorn.

IF he gets it right, he's a 60+ goal a year FF, or a hard-working leadup CHF (mini Jack's cousin), even has the endurance and field kicking to play off a wing/HBF.

My understanding is that physically he's now right, but has had (and perhaps will have) a lot of mental issues to deal with if he is to succeed in an AFL environment.
