I was downloading a tv show at 5am this morning. The computer I have is about 5 years old. I would imagine the speed connection might be slow. I was downloading through a torrent. I think there was only a couple of other on at the same time. I hope this helps.

Not really, without knowing the size of the file it is impossible to even estimate how long it should take.

The file is 700MB, I am certainly not downloading it, so there is no need to look into me, but if I were to be downloading it, it would take about 13 hours all up.

For me a 700mb file takes about 7-8 minutes

I have ADSL 2+ and am close to the exchange which allows me to get close to 24 megabits per second on some occasions. Generally though when getting files it comes in at around 12.5-13 megabits per second which is around 100 megabytes per minute.
Also I don't use torrents as they are slow. I use usenet groups. To use these you need to have a usenet server, some ISP's have this for free or you can pay to subscribe to one (around USD$25 for 90gb worth of downloading).
