"In one half-hour workout he blew American big men Chris Kaman and Chris Bosh out of the water. "

That's Pavel Podkolzine. All '7"5 of him. I think we have a new #4 draft pick.

The same Podkolzine who you were "highly sceptical" of, and the same guy who you called "crap"? :D

I said the Grizzlies would target this guy with pick 27, guess that's out the window.

Hey, playing bugger all minutes and averaging like 3 ppg constituted my skepticism. Everyone makes mistakes, just ask Jod.

Yup. Probably end up with Khryapa or Carbakapa at #13, I'm thinking - if no trading up occurs.

This is the first good news I have heard about Podkolzine. Everything else has been real bad...like really bad. Will be interesting to see where he goes in the draft...which isnt too far away.

Apparently the '7"0 Maciej Lampe cannot dunk... :D

Looks like the Grizz may land Polish Pau after all, P&P.

Sounds good to me.

We need some height, so Guey, what are you doing for the next few years you lanky prick? ;)

The only Spurs news I have is that we worked out HS entree Kendrick Perkins.
http://www.nba.com/draft2003/profiles/PerkinsKendrick.html

A big guy who averaged 27.5 points, 16.4 rebounds and 7.8 blocks per game last season. It'll be interesting to see if he is picked up in the draft and if the Spurs have a serious interest.

Freestylin' with White Chocolate.

Jerry West and the Grizzlies are trying to prevent Mickael Pietrus from working out with any other clubs, such was the standard of his workout in Memphis.

They're going to trade up to get him, Stromile Swift and #13 for #4 or thereabouts.

'Bout time they cut Strom loose.

The guy is too good to be playing second or third fiddle in the post.

Jerry West is a damn genius, if he wants this kid badly, he'll get him.

Nice top, Darko. Did Joey D give you that one?

Ive heard rumblings that Melo isnt too keen on going to Denver and the Nuggets are also unsure whether to draft him or not. The Bulls are apparently looking to trade up, maybe one of CC's straight up for pick number 3 or a player and their first round draft pick for 3? I dont know, just all rumors. Suppose we will find out soon enough.

HS prospect Charlie Villanueva worked out for the Spurs yesterday in San Antonio.
He still hasn't decided if he wants to withdraw from the draft.

He'd want to get his skates on... the deadline is tomorrow!

Villanueva withdraws from NBA draft

Mike Sullivan
Sporting News

Charlie Villanueva, a 6-10 forward from Blair Academy in New Jersey, has withdrawn his name from the 2003 NBA draft. Villanueva, who has given a commitment to Connecticut, will now play for Jim Calhoun's program next season.

Villanueva, ranked in many 2003 recruiting lists in the top five, is considered a big man with small forward skills. He has NBA range on his jumper and also is terrific in transition. He has the ability to dominate the game offensively due to his size and skills.

Last Fall, Villanueva had given a verbal commitment to Illinois. But after Bill Self left for the Kansas job, Villanueva backed away from his commitment. He opened up his recruiting process again and selected Connecticut over Kansas.
