There was a story about it on Channel Seven a few days ago.

Apparently there's still a lot of soreness around the knee, and the Medics simply don't know when he'll be ready.

The footage they had during the report, showed him on crutches, so I'd be very suprised if he was ready by Round1.

Shame, he's one of my favourites.

Buzz, I saw the same story on Channel 7 about Banfield's set back. They said he wouldn't be available for round 1, but angry ant Read and Sirra would be available.

A query here, what does available mean with players coming back from knee injuries, in that does the date we are given for them to be available mean return to football (start with a couple of WAFL games) or ready for AFL ?.

From past experience with knee injuries it would appear that players take 12 months to get back on the park, then spend time in the WAFL. Maybe the docs have improved their techniques, but I think most players will take 12+ months to resume in an AFL game.

I heard he'd be ok to play WAFL in round one, and by round 3-4 we'd see him back with the Eagles. But, if he's on crtuches as we speak, I'm not so sure.

Apparently Read and Siera have been training at full pace for quite a while now. So I'd expect them to play Ansett Cup, and then after assessing their form, Woosh will make a decision on Round1.

Usually key-position players take a while to regain full confidence in their knee, so my guess would be that Siera might play Wafl for the first few rounds of the season.

Phillip Read on the other hand, will be keen as mustard to play against Freo, especially since Dale Kickett will be playing.

Another blood-bath would suit me fine. Especially if Willow steps in.

For some reason Siera plays very well against the Dockers and I am sure the Eagles match committee are aware of this. Obviously they won't rush him back but my bet is if he is at least 90% he will be on the paddock.

Don't rely on Willow if any fights start. He is good at running through packs and crunching people that way but he is no fighter.

Banfield is a great player but i dont think we will miss him all that much from round 1. With Cousins, Kerr, Braun, Fletcher, Jones, Wirrpunda, Judd etc etc and Freos weak midfield i still think we can dominate the middle.

But with Banfield around it would release Cousins, Fletcher and/or Jones into the forward line. He's a big loss IMO. A real class act.

Oh im not saying it doesnt hurt to lose him but we can cover for it. Cousins forward though?? He dominates through the middle..i wouldnt waste his awesome talent up forward.

Out of the three you mentioned actually D4E's, i would only move Fletcher forward. He is quite good forward and can kick goals, Cousins home is in the middle where he dominates, only put him in a pocket when he needs a rest. Jones with Banfield probably not playing in the opener, will need to be in the middle in a tagging role on Bell.

When is the first pre season game........

Banfield is a tagger, cuz and fletch are play makers. The only person that can be released to play forward is Jones who took on Banners tagging role well last year but could be a good forward.

The more players we've got to rotate through the middle, the better.

Banfield will be sorely missed, simply because of his experience and hardness.
He also could have been another option to go down back, and play on Farmer.

P.S. - This is my 200th post.
I'm climbing the ladder people, soon you will all answer to me. ;)

Anyway, i reckon with Banfield back in, we could use Jones up forward where he looked really good last season
