Forgetting about the crap, I don't know why we'd want Montagna. I don't see too much to get excited about.

Ready made body, good pace, good finisher(averages nearly a goal a game), four years development.

Slots straight into the midfield, not asking big money, eager for an opportunity. Smart footballer with 10 years ahead of him.

He's a better option than Pev, or playing Solly in the midfield.

Certainly dont think that montanga would hurt us...

wouldn't be too expensive
is developed to some extent
does sneak in the odd goal.

Don't know about his ball winning ability in close and around stoppages though. We really do need someone to help JJ out with the clearances as we seem to have plenty of pacey guys around to receive. Thats why someone like Bartel would be great for us.

(note the "someone like" - chances of us picking up Bartel = 0.0001)

Leigh Montagna, Salopek, Gram, Rischitelli, Brad Murphy.
Still some options out there.

Notting perhaps.
Would any of those seriously improve our team? Salopek is injury-prone, Rischitelli who really knows? Is he any better than our young, quick guys? Gram and Murphy you can keep....depth only.

I reckon Notting would be crap unless in a top team. We got rid of guys like Heff, Blummers and Cara because they couldn't stand up when the team started to struggle.

not that good a player, particularly in a midfield capacity, is what comes to mind to me, but i admit I haven't seen a great deal of him.

No, none would seriously improve our team, but all of them would add depth to our midfield and that is something we don't have. We have added to our midfield and improved it. But we are still leaving too much work to too few.
Whilst Jason Johnson and Brent Stanton are playing 100+ minutes of footy then we are going to struggle.

We need to be able to replace these guys through rotations without losing any intensity in the middle. And it isn't just one addition that will do that, it will take 3-4 additions, including the blokes already at the club to take our midfield to the next level.

We aren't going to get a better player than Rischitelli, Gram, Murphy in the draft outside our first two picks and it is likely that they will be used (at least one of them) to take a tall defender. I haven't seen a lot of Gram, but have seen a fair bit of Murphy and Rischitelli. Both would come cheap, both want more opportunities, both very skillful and Rischitelli in particular is very hard working on the field.

Salopek is in Port Adelaides best 22, he would be a most welcome addition.

You're probably right. He did stand up in last year's GF.

No we didn't, we got rid of two of them because they were battling injury and the other because he was asking much more than we could give him. Had we had the money in the cap, all three would have stayed.

i really doubt that, sheedy had warned those 3 players earlier in the season that they better perform or they were out and they didint.

sheedy brings out the salary cap as an excuse, if he really wanted to keep any of them he would of.

Given what we got for Heffernan and Blumfield, especially Heffernan, I have no doubt our hands were tied.

We traded Heffernan and pick 17 for pick 12. There is no way we would have done that if our hands weren't tied.

If Sheedy had warned Heffernan early in the season that he would be out if he didn't perform, then why did we sign him just a few weeks before season's end?

Interesting inside knowledge on what Sheedy says to the players by the way.

why did we sign up heffernan if we supposedly didnt have any salary cap left?

sheedy publicly warned that trio of players before i think it was the port adelaide final that they had to perform or they were under pressure.

Because we signed players on a belief that the veterans list rules were going to change. It didn't and Heff was expendable.
