THe bloke is an excellent third man in but his one on one work is terrible.. he cant kick, cant run it out and gets outbodied in every contest

too small to play key and to big to play small... garland and frawley are way past him and only one of macdonald and rivers should be on the list next year

Rivers and Jones are killing this club, until they are gone we won't improve like we should.

Unfortunately Bailey loves these 2 for some unknown reason so it is going to be very unlikely.

I am praying for either McDonald or Davis to start playing good football in the VFL so we don't have to see Rivers and MacDonald play more senior footy.

I hope that Gysberts will soon surpass Jones in the team sooner rather than later.

I used to be a massive fan of Rivers, but he seems to have lost his way. He can't win a contest, and gives away far too many simple free kicks. He offers zero run out of defense as well, which is a big part of our gameplan.

I just don't think Bailey will drop him. Especially this early in the season. Give him another few weeks to prove he belongs, and then make the call. Obviously the players love him as he is in our leadership group, and it would take another 3-4 games like the one he had on Sunday to get dropped. I think we can play with Rivers and JMac in the side together, we just can't play with Rivers/Frawley/Garland/JMac and Warnock in the same team.

I really like the way our backline is shaping for the next 5-6 years. Frawley, Garland, Bartram and Grimes(who reads the play better than Rivers now) have all taken massive steps forward, and now Tappscott has injected some hardness and kicking skill. JMac has been solid since coming to the dees, while Rivers is the only one going backwards. Needs to lift if he wants to be a part of our team going forward. I'll be calling for his head if he continues to play like he did on the weekend, but for now, he remains in the team...

It's 1 game! Let's see how he goes next week, and especially once Frawley is back. Once Frawley is back he can play the 3rd man up role to effect. He is a better defender than Nick Maxwell, but they use Maxwell to his strengths at Collingwood. If there is room for him in their Premiership side, then there is room for Rivers in the Melbourne backline.

Really? Look, I love Collingwood bashing as much as the next bloke, but Rivers is not better than Nick Maxwell as a defender and hasn't been for quite awhile.

I do agree that Collingwood play Maxwell to his strengths, and we should probably play Rivers in a similar vein, however, Maxwell is much better than Rivers in a contest. Both read the play well, have tremendous courage and are similar in skills, but Maxwell is a far better body on body player than Rivers is.

Personally, I think Rivers has been a liability for a number of years now. Unless he finds the form he had back when he won the Rising Star Award, he is in serious danger of not being a part of this team moving forward. This season will be a telling one for him, lets hope he can recapture some of that rising star form...

Stinga knows his stuff.....all the above:thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

Rivers played the role of a key defender on the weekend. He's a third tall, so of course he wasn't going to have a good game.

Yes that Sam Reid after all those pre seasons has a really strong body on him. He sure has had a fine career. Sam Reid>>>>>Jonathan Brown :rolleyes:

Ohh and that Jesse White has been in Coleman Medal form as well. :o:o

Rivers got owned by a kid, true story. Should have done alot better.
