I want to get a dvd bruner for my pc, are they better installed or separate?

Yep. that's what I was trying to ask.

I just have one pc.
 
Basically, if you have room inside your computer for another internal drive, and the technical intelligence to install it, buy an internal.
If you don't have the room, or portability is important to you, buy an external. Just make sure you have a spare USB port to plug it into.

Note that should be a USB 2 port if your computer is a little old.
 
I think I'll go into Harvey Norman and ask them. Thats where Dad got the pc.

Ask 'em by all means. Then buy it somewhere else. When I bought my burner 6 months ago, HN were charging $200 more than I paid at the local PC storem for the same model.

I picked up a Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-107D for $150 about two months ago. It's dual format (i.e. can use '+' and '-' media) and I've not had any problems with it. Well worth a look.
