Hoping one of you guys can help me as I am certainly no electronics whiz!

I have purchased a DVD recorder (an el cheapo, as I just want to see what it can do first!) but can't even connect it. At the moment I have the tv, video, foxtel and stereo all hooked up and working a treat, but when I try to connect the dvd recorder to the tv (as the instruction manual says) nothing happens. Should I really be connecting the white, red and yellow cables to the video or to foxtel?

Please help (as the "customer service" is of no assistance at all)!

I have the same problem with my VCR and my Foxtel. I have no idea how to set it up cause there are so many different outputs and inputs and yellow, white and red holes and wires n such so i dont record anything off foxtel.

I would probably say that you have it hooked up right but your not watching it through the right channel. Put a dvd in, play it and then tune through the channels (or maybe ur dvd plays on AV) and see if it works.

I have hooked it up, pretty much replacing how the VCR was connected. Now I can get audio but no picture???

I'm not sure exactly how..
But you can connect it so that everything is running through the DVD Recorder..

If there isn't enough plugs at the back for everything to go in, you could get the little double adapter plugs to put there.

Make sure you have the Yellow, White and Red (Video, L & R Audio) plugs going from the DVD recorder's output socket and at the other end plugged into a socket that says 'AV1 (2 or 3) in'

How many sockets on your DVD recorder say 'AV in' Kristin?

We've got it working - finally! Dunno how - just a lot of perseverence! Our only problem now is we can't get it to play through the stereo speakers, but that's probably a very minor problem in the scheme of things!

yes it has. We can get surround sound when we are just watching tv or foxtel, but not when we are watching a dvd now.

Actually I just realised I've got 6 speakers connected to the stereo! D'oh! I've got surround stereo in the lounge room, with the amplifier thingy (sorry, as I've said - I'm not technologically minded at all!) but this is all in the bedroom (for now - I'm moving house soon). It doesn't really matter - I have the stereo speakers working for the tv and foxtel, just not for the dvd recorder, but as I'll be moving fairly shortly it's not a big deal if I can't get it all connected correctly now. As long as I can get it all right in the new house!
