Recently bought a Panasonic VHS/DVD Recorder to transfer a bunch of old videos - mostly family nostalgia and many hours of the kids grwoing up - onto DVDs.
I've managed to carry this off successfully, but now wish to tinker around on the PC with the footage on the DVDs - you know, edit out the dodgy camerawork and jazz it all up a bit.
So I'm just after some advice on useful and accessible software that might be applicable to rip the stuff off the newly burned DVDs, split the larger files into smaller ones, and then re-burn the files in a more well-presented and watchable fashion. I currently have Cyberlink Power Director Express which seems to do the first two steps adequately but doesn't want to save in a burnable format.
The files are currently in the .VOB (burned from the DVD recorder) and .MOD (from the digital video camera) formats if that means anything.
Any advice from those with experience executing such matters would be greatly appreciated, and refunded in pints if necessary.
Cheers in advance.
