Ive just got a DVD player, can i download movies off the net then burn them to cd then watch them on my DVD player? is this possible at all?"

Not in DVD, but VCD usually is ok. But why you would want to bother is another question. Searching for and then downloading a movie which will be of dubious quality is a timely task even with broadband. You may even end up with a completely different movie from the one you thought you were downloading. It's just a damn site easier hiring them from the vid shop, burn a copy of them if you want to keep a copy.

I've given up downloading movies, but the Simpsons' that's a different matter.

As Jim Boy said, you're better off going to the local vid store and ripping them. I only ever go on kazaa to download a movie if I can't find it in any store.

Another problem is that most movies are encoded as DivX, which means you have to spend around another 5 hours encoding the bastard into VCD format for the DVD player, so most of the time it isn't worth it for easy to find movies.
