I see Dylan was picked for WA side today.

Would Cats be a chance Key position player CHB.

Our draft strategy will be interesting as we need back ups for Harley/Milburn and then for Mooney.

MY delistings:

Milburn retired

Dawson Simpson

Matt Egan

Adam Donohue

Kane Tenace

David Johnson

This would ensure 4 draft picks plue elevation of laidler & Mummy.

I would take a chance and consider trading gamble and others to secure key picks,we haven't had many rising stars with our late picks.

Need key forwards and pace the most.

Ranga & A.Varcoe could be good.

Don't think we'll be getting rid of David Johnson either. Especially if Milburn retires.

Few Points to your post.

D.Simpson is only in his 2nd year as a big ruckman so they will not delist him.

Donohue is in his 2nd year and was drafted as a 17 year old so you could say he is only in his 1st year to an extent as far as age is concerned.

And all up there you have 4 backmen getting delisted or retiring plus Tenace who would only get a game in our seniors as a backman so you have got 5 backmen getting delisted. did you think about that? it wont happen our backline is the oldest part of our list we need some depth and youth there.

Nope. Sorry

And I have no friggin idea why he didnt discuss dylan at all.
Why cloud the thread with delistings?

oh well

from my sources inside the club, mitch brown and tom gillies are going to be 200 plus game players for the club, extremely top KP prospects, expecting to see gillies in the nab cup next year.

oh and dont forget we will be promoting ranga off the rookie list too, the kids a very tallented daniel kerr like midfielder.

I think you missed Harley. Wouldn't be surprised if our captain retired at the end of this year to go live with his soon to be(I think) missus in Sydney.

Unfortunately we need to see if Mitch Brown will recover fully from his bad break b4 we can make that sort of prediction.

I would have thought they will keep Ranga on the Rookie list for another 12 months.

How about some details on Dylan Bairstow - size, position and form. Could he be drafted, like Cousins, by a WA side instead of Geelong ? He has the choice ?

Dawson is lucky we don't have reserves like Box Hill the days are diminishing for slow ruckman except for Sandilands much prefer West.

Tenace can't make it.

Donohue hasn't showed anything.

I do think NJ,ranga & A.Varcoe are very promissing.

I just think we need to sure up key positions and also speed to compliment mids.

I think we need to think outside square to trade something of value to get low picks not trade our soul away as with King, prismall etc.

To draftr Butcher or Panos would compliment Hawkins and Mitc Brown

Bairstow savages Bulldogs over his son

4th June 2009, 13:30 WST

South Fremantle Sandover medallist and one-time Geelong captain Mark Bairstow has slammed the Bulldogs and the West Australian football system after his son Dylan walked out on the State under-18s squad.
The teenager had been part of the WA State Academy since February and completed every training session with the 45-man squad, while also playing for South Fremantle’s colts team. But the key defender withdrew from the WA team on the eve of the national titles and returned to playing for South Bunbury.
Dylan Bairstow is eligible to join Geelong under the father-son rule this year, but his father said he was more likely to be considered in 2010. He said Dylan didn’t believe he was guaranteed to play for WA, so country football stood out as his best chance of success.
“South Fremantle’s colts set up leaves a lot to be desired,” his father said. “They don’t accommodate the country boys properly.
“He made the decision himself that he wasn’t going to sit on the bench for half a game playing colts football. If you’re a backman trying out for the under-18s, you’d think you’d be playing in the back line for South Fremantle colts wouldn’t you? I think it’s bloody ridiculous. They play him a bit in the back line, a bit up forward, bits and pieces everywhere.
“When the Eagles and Dockers go back (to the WAFL), they get full games and they play in positions that they are going to play at AFL level. Surely the under-18s have got enough people working with them that they could oversee the players going back to the local clubs.”
South Fremantle declined to comment yesterday, but WAFC high performance manager Jon Haines said State coach Andrew Lockyer wanted Bairstow in the squad.
He said the youngster had improved his kicking, fitness and skinfolds as part of the academy and would have been strongly considered for selection.
Haines said Lockyer often asked colts coaches to play youngsters in positions and his requests were almost always met. But he wouldn’t force someone to stay in the squad.
“We respect his decision and if that’s what he wants to do, we wish him all the best,” Haines said.
“One of the issues we explained to him is if he does have aspirations for the next level in terms of an AFL career, they’re going to be severely limited if he’s playing country football.”
The young Bairstow has played all seven games for South Bunbury’s league team and is hoping to gain selection for next month’s country championships.
Mark Bairstow said the under-18 titles weren’t the only AFL pathway.

I've seen a fair bit of Bairstow at South Freo colts this year.

He is around the 192cm and 90kg mark. Although he does look heavier. Really needs to improve his pace and endurance and skinfolds. He is good overhead and is strong one on one.

Like the article says he has pretty much played in every possie this year. looks too slow to be a key defender to me.

He played seniors for South Bunbury when he was 15 which is a fair effort as it's a very strong country league competition.

His pace off the mark will be a concern to recruiters although you could do a lot worse than developing him on the rookie list.

Made the WA U18's squad last year as well.

Not sure he has done enough to be drafted though.

Sounds to me that Bairstow has changed his mind a little about Geelong. I heard a number of stories that he didn't want anything to do with the club after leaving.

Wouldn't mind seeing the kid come to Geelong, could be an easy ticket. Though he seems to have a little perception issue about himself. Maybe a few tickets?

You don't need sources inside the club to see that Mitch Brown will be a player in the future. Just a pair of eyes. I would suggest that same for Gillies.
