I hear eddie is training with us at the moment...is this true?

we wont pick him up in the psd, but i think he is a huge chance to be taken by the blues in the rookie draft.

Personally, i would love us to get betts as a rookie...watched a couple of his games during the year, looks a real exciting prospect. I think he could be an answer to our problems with small crumbing forwards now that skinny lappin has moved into the backline.

Thoughts?????

Yeah I hope this is right... he looks like a talent, could be worth a punt if he doesnt go before Carlton's pick...

Who are are we looking at in the pre-season/rookie drafts?

Brilliant news if he is training with us - would be a steal if we get his as a rookie & really hope he makes it.
Would love to see him strutt his stuff in the wizza cup.
He looked VERY classy in the TAC GF.

If is so "classy", what is main reason he wasn't picked up in the National Draft??

BTW what are his physical stats. and most suitable playing position??

Size is obviously his major query, & the fact he is a 1 position player - same doubts were placed on Davey last year.

Anyone who saw his insane snap from the boundry goal during the TAC GF would have been amazed at what they saw.
He actually had the opportunity to blow that game apart - but missed a couple he should have got.
Still ended up with 3 goals.

Sit him at the feet of FEV & let the midget freak run wild & strut his stuff.

What? Betts training with you guys? Damn, I wanted us to take him...
you still can. it doesn't matter where they train. you will probably find that Carlton have 3 or 4 TAC players who were'nt picked up in the draft training with them at the moment. They can't and will not rookie them all. They might take someone else before Betts leaving the door open for the Cats.

Great news. I knew we wouldn't get Mckee but didn't know which young-un we'd get.

What's the dirt on him? From some of the above posts he sounds to me like a lightning quick, freakishly skilled tiny goal-sneak. Is he black?[/QUOTE]

That's the same question I was asking myself, and yes I think he is, cos he's cousins with the burgoynes...........

Eddie Betts
Details:
Club: Templestowe/Calder
DOB: 26 November 1986 Hgt: 173cm Wgt: 75kg
Position: Forward Pocket/Back Pocket
Natural Foot: Right

Honours:
Victoria Metro 2003, 2004
All Australian 2003
National Draft Camp 2004

TAC Stats:
2003: 17 games, 36 goals, 14.1 PPG
2004: 10 games, 24 goals, 12.7 PPG

Strengths: Eddie is a livewire pocket rocket who was originally from Kalgoolie. He was recruited to the Calder Cannons on the advice of Phil Krakouer, and also played junior footy in SA at Mallee Park, where his cousins Harry Miller, Graham Johncock and the Burgoynes came from.

Betts is super quick and elusive, and his front and square ability is just sensational. He always hits the ball at pace. Is capable of kicking the freak goals every week, as well as dishing off with his exceptionally quick hands. Reads the play well and can kick on the left.

Weaknesses: Obviously his size. Betts is tiny and to get drafted when you are 5'6 you have to be exceptional - even then you can still get overlooked. Whether Eddie has the body to handle the rigours of AFL football is the big question. Specialist forward pockets also tend to get overlooked by most clubs. Injuries also affected him in 2004.

Footydraft.com comment: Eddie is one of the hardest players to classify in the entire draft pool. I love the way he plays and his ability mean it would be a travesty if he wasn't at least given an opportunity on an AFL list. However, I think clubs will be just too wary of his small stature, and a rookie list is a more likely option at this stage.

He is aboriginal & I'm pretty sure is related to a few of the guys running around at other clubs in Melb.... but cant remember who.

He is small, but a pocket rocket - he has amazing freakinh skills as a crummer & is lightning quick.

Doubt if he could ever become an on-baller & hopefully will become a hard tackling, freakish forward pocket for the Baggers.

One thing for sure, he will be a cult hero & an excitement machine.
No doubt he will get a run in the Wizza & look forward to him & Fev combining.

I CANT STRESS ENOUGH HOW BLOODY HAPPY I AM THAT WE DIDNT TAKE KNOBEL OR MCKEE !!!! :)

Well, if he's anywhere near as good as Peter or Shaun Burgoyne, I for one will be quite happy! :)
