edwards puzzles me. i never see him chase anyone down and tackle, so he isnt like davy??, he never makes runs down the flanks bouncing the ball, so he isnt an excitement machine like lovett??, he dont run hard at the ball and pick it up cleanly in packs, so he isnt like rioli? and he dont look overly fast as you would expect.

You're very right. He also has poor skills, he is the definition of a very ordinary footballer. He makes Silvester look like a champion. He might get better but at the moment, not up to it.

True, he shouldn't be playing in the seniors. Just cant comprehend it anymore, terry takes too long to drop these guys.

lmao@ the lack of knowledge displayed in this thread.

My opinion on Edwards.

Very young but has achieved alot. Undersized but still goes in hard, makes mistakes but gets up and continues to try harder.... Attacks the ball and is not afraid to tackle players double his size. He has football smarts and a great attitude. Still only 20 and has a lot of improvement in his strength and size to come.
Can take a mark and kick a goal, he has motor and can run all day. He along with all inexperienced players will lack consistency.

His position at the moment is unclear, but the club will definitely look to him to be in the midfield in the future. Playing off HBF will teach him defensive accountability but I really think he is an attacking player. He is still VERY much in the development stage in his career.

so they are making him a jack of all trades but master of nothing.

they need to play him in one position and only one position until he become good at it before swapping around. forward pocket is where he should play for 4-5 years depending on how fast he develops.

Edwards has showed promising signs at times, but has not shown enough to suggest he is going to make it. Yet. Doesn't find a lot of the ball because he doesn't know where to run. He has a big tank however, so if he can figure out where to run he should get quite a lot of the football. His kicking and decision making, even under little pressure are below average and his body and core strength are weak. His tackling is not great, regardless of nut's observations, he is easily knocked off the contest.

If Edwards is going to make the grade I think it will be as a midfielder, not a flanker, because his kicking is not good enough. I'd try and bulk him up as much as possible and try and develop his football mind to be able to read the play better (which will be a very difficult thing to do). I think Edwards could be looked as trade bait at the end of the year in the attempt to get a stop gap ruckman we will need when Simmonds retires.

We played Pettifer up forward for ever... and he ever developed the defensive side to his game. They are not making him the Jack of all trades but giving him grounding in more than 1 position which is what we should have done with petifer.

nothing wrong with petts playing up forward. morton does exactly the same except he loiters in the goal square waiting for teammates to give him easy goals, dont chase, dont tackle.

wallace is RUINING them, he played deledio at FF, raines a chb etc, i see tambling trying to settle in to various positions each year yet not improving, it just dont work. they should specialise and then if they show they can do more then move them. no use trying to make them into something they arent.

so once we draft someone they must play that position they were drafted for, for there whole career. it's all right to experiment. 10mins at full forward wont hurt, 1 game playing CHF wont hurt.

His tackling is good except you are right he does't have the strength to make them all stick... which development will take care over a few more pre-seasons.

the side is like musical chair, they can play different positions as they get a lot better rather than just doing it for sake of it. they need to let them settl otherwise they will become crap.

edwards tackling is poor and half hearted. davey isnt much bigger but can grab players much bigger without being brushed aside.
