This group of 3 young midfielders are all exciting in their own ways. In the future, most of us would expect all three to be important players who really give our midfield some classy depth with hardness and leadership.

Who do you think will be the best of the three?

They'll all be great, but I think In the next 3 or 4 years Vlaustin will be right up there with the competitions best. Jeez our midfield is looking good for the next decade or so.

Very tough question. They all have there good traits and are all slightly different.

If I had to place them in order then

Vlastuin
Conca
Ellis

Although that could quite easily be turned on its head they are all that close.

Best thing about all this is we have them supporting Cotchin, Deledio and Martin. Damn that midfield is only going to get stronger :D

So hard to pick. I'd like to see how people think these three will rank among Cotch, Lids and Martin in 3 years time.

For mine - Cotchin > Vlastuin > Martin > Ellis > Deledio (will be nearly 30 by then) > Conca

If they all come on as expected... dat core

Of these 3 Ellis will be the best.
Works incredibly hard and he will be our Dane Swan. Not saying he will get that good, but he will be the similar type, runs all day and just burns off opponents through sheer gut running, drifts forward and hits the scoreboard and racks up 30 touches a game.

Vlastuin will be second, a true footballer who loves the contest, does everything well and could be the next captain after Cotchin.

Conca will be third, which isn't an insult, he will be a very handy midfielder but won't get the accolades of the others.

1) I expect Vlas to be best. Tough skilled, inside outside, athletic, great leadership.

2) Conca is an inside/outside/goal scoring mid. That is a jewel encristed solid gold combo. And he does the 1%ers, and protects others

3) Ellis is a great outside running player, good skills, great attitude.

So all look great and would be a good starting point for a to[p notch midfield without Cotch, Lids and Dusty. :D

Vlastuin's not what I'd call athletic. Not overly quick, doesn't jump that high, not extremely agile or evasive it.
Athleticism wouldn't be one of his strong suits tbh.

Yep, I got a bit enthused. By athletic I meant that he has got some speed and and ability to get to right spot fairly quickly. But he is no Lids. However he can be quite elusive in tight and has enough pace to not be slow.

Vlas for me looks to have the hallmarks of a very very special player.. Leader and good decsion maker and fearless.. Love it

Definetely not slow, agreed. Looks to be one of those players who just knows where and when to go, Diesel Williams wasn't quick but his game sense meant he was a step ahead of the play, Vlastuin has that attribute (though obviously not as good as the champ).

I think Conca will be the best and hardest to match up on - has a few more tricks IMO - Classy inside or out and we will see the best of him as soon as injuries permit.

Vlas will be a gun but wont be as versatile as Conca - A Simon Black type pure inside mid with special skills.

Ellis will be very good, but he seems to be wanted as an outside running machine and these types are too often shut down with ease. This could change if he is allowed to go inside more often, depends on his role as I see him more than capable of going inside if allowed.

Ps. Lennon could be the best of all of them :D

Loving how our opinions on these 3 young Tigers are varied... shows that individually they all have special attributes.

However what they ALL have in common IMO and what will carry them and the Tigers over the next few years... and that is an incredible passion and fierce desire to compete and win.... this trait is priceless and although almost all AFL players have a will to succeed, the final 5% - 10% which really separates the elite from the rest is hard to find.

We are very fortunate to have these 3 young Tiger mids on the books as IMO all 3 have that final percent.

Love being a Tiger supporter coming into this year... :thumbsu:

1) Flossy is a hard nut but wouldn't call him very "athletic". Good skill but athleticism is definitely not his strong suite. He'd be in the lower echelon within our club for athleticism - something he can work on for sure.

2) Conca is a great inside mid, accurate kick with a bit of mongrel about him. However wouldn't call him inside and outside as (whilst i love him) his speed is average. Also, going at 0.2 -0.3 goals per game for his career doesn't really qualify him as a "goal scoring mid" sorry.

3) Ellis is more than an outside running player. He also has a better goal per game average than Conca.

Either you need to watch a bit more, or do a little research. Sorry.

Conca has played back and on players most of his career, only really moved forward after coming back from injury this year since Flossy had filled his position. He scored 10 goals in 5 of his 12 games, with multiple bags of 3. Also not sure where the stat is but he was one of our best players last year for finding players inside forward 50 (7th on average inside 50's but can't find effective ones). He kicked 2 more goals than Deledio from 6 less games. He is definitely a goal scoring mid.

That's not even mentioning that he was 5th on average tackles for us last year and 7th on clearances.

all 3 are great for different reasons.
Vlastuin reminds me of Voss.
Ellis is a running machine with great disposal.
Conca has been held back by injury, each time he strings some good games together and becomes consistent he gets injured.

Completely agree, and they're all such good foils for our first line mids in Cotchin, Lids and Martin.

Just for some reference here are their 2013 averages:

They all play completely different roles and they're all very good at it. You can see how Conca plays in the guts and on players with his higher clearances, higher free's and higher tackles. Ellis you can see plays on the wing and in defence with his high disposal efficiency, marks and uncontested possessions. Vlastuin is a first year half back, got the tackles but low clearances and high 1%'ers and overall lower possession count.
