Ellis / Vlastuin / Conca

Like Grigg is a 150m player. Kicks it back 50m, runs 25m back. Gets the pass back, kicks it 50m to the opposite wing. Runs sideways 25m. Gets it back and then handballs it off.

(Griggs not that bad, just we have a team improving around him)

Buckley was the perfect 180m player. Get ball on back flank, boot it 60m, turnover, ball comes 60m straight back to buckley, mark, kick it straight back 60m.

Actually this went on and on and on.

Vlastuin is the obvious choice...he has that flash in the way he moves...assured, balanced and tough. Ellis has the flash too...running wide down the wing and hammering the ball into the forward line, but I think its Conca who will be the one. He's still rough around the edges but when I watch him I see a young kid whose real talents are still held back by both injury and the pressures of having to do what the coaches want. He's done enough of the small 'special' things to make me raise my eyebrows. He's less obvious, he looks the wrong body type, and there's no obvious glam about him, but if they let him have his head in the pre-season he might show us what he can really do.

I keep thinking James Kelly whenever I see Conca

Conca was a lower draft pick so there Conca>Vlaustin>Ellis.

They are really even and it will be good to see who stands up over the next 2-3 years.

At this stage I would say Ellis because he can find the ball 39 times a game and gut runs very well. Conca is the best attacking player and Vlaustin has some neat tricks.

Froffing at the mouth tbh

That's interesting, I reckon he has the worst disposal by foot of the three.

i think vlastuin will be the elite of the 3. for mine, from what i have seen so far, his coolness under pressure and ability to think his way through things is phenomenal for someone his age and experience. you can't teach players that. if i had to make comparisons, i guess i would like him more to pendlebury for his ability to make the right decision, and ellis to swan for his ability to run all day and rack up possessions. i love conca for the grunt stuff that he can do in and under and see him being crucial in that role. it's all good folks!

For me Vlastuin will be the best of the three. Some of his performances this year for a first year player were beyond unbelievable. The 3 goals against West Coast, the whole game against Melbourne and the first half and a bit against Carlton in the EF where he and Cotchin were really the only players to stand tall just suggest Champion. His inside game is what he was selected for and will be elite but his decision making is already close to the best at the club and makes his outside game phenomenal. Everyone will go on about Wines and a few others but not one comes close to his ability to make the right choice with the ball in hand. It is a special trait and not many in the game have it.

Conca will be the next best, a good inside mid with solid skills and a hard at it approach. His kicking can be a bit hit and miss but i remember that kick from the boundary line to square up i think it was s.edwards but also may have been maric, or he could have done it multiple times, was sublime. Is getting better when he gets forward and we just have to hope he stays injury free.

Ellis is the least rounded of the three for mine. Has the best outside game and spread ability but has nothing on the inside which puts him behind the other two. Has an absolutely outstanding attitude at training by all reports so if anyone can overcome their weaknesses at the club it'll be him

Haha this is exactly what I was going to post once I got through to the end of this thread. Just a hard, tough mid who does all the team things and helps set up play. Nothing flashy but always in the contest.

Pretty much exactly how I see it, CM. Although I think Conca will be very, very good.

But if he ever pretends to be asleep while singing the RFC theme song, there will be hell to pay!

Unless we've won at least 70 of the last 75 games and not lost a final in over 3 years. Then it's ok.
