With all the Elvis 25th Anniversary shows on at the moment, its got me thinking......

If he didn't die would he still have the following he has today or has he been immortalised in death?

Good question, Hurricane.

Mind you, if he was still kicking on, he'd be 67. Would be hard to believe that he'd still be performing at that age, whether he'd be in demand or not.

But having said that, I'm sure you can't get within several blocks of Graceland this weekend.

Cheers,
William

What I want to know is, what did Elvis have that modern artists today don't have? Why has he stood out above all?

I like Elvis, one cool character, but I certainly don't expect to see Britney Spears impersonators in 20 years time.

Cause he was a white guy who sounded black...

A unique style in a rapidly booming recording industry which has now peaked and become overly familiar.

Similar to the reasons why no cola since Coke or Pepsi has succeeded on the same level, why no AFL club is likely to become more popular than Collingwood or why no-one will go to see a new Yahoo Serious or Crocodile Dundee film. The market is saturated, its no longer the new thing.

Not even in amatuer pr0n videos?

You dont need to wait 20 years to see that, you can see it now. (or so im told)! ;)

Elvis? He was great looking, he could sing and dance, he was the first to make it in movies. He died young and the legend grew from there.

Would he be as big (in a musical sense.. physically the way he ate he would be Rusty Brookes size.. hi Rusty btw) if he had lived? Maybe but its speculative. Buddy Holly still has his fans. Lennon seems to have become more iconic in death. Monroe, Dean, hell going way back to Valentino have all done great from being dead.

It is a purity that cannot be touched. What he did is there and can be reflected upon to times of when whoever first heard him sing was at that age. Hence he becomes 'ageless' while we keep getting older.

Forever young I think they call it. It is a very fitting description too.

Hey, I think I might have lost a pound or two over the past 2 weeks since I climbed on board the wagon? ;)

Good question. The same thing could be said about Hendrix, the Beatles, Joplin, etc. I think Elvis would still be a legend but hopefully he wouldn't be performing.

Yahoo has made a new one?
He made one a couple of years ago after Young Einstein. I don't remember the name, but it flopped.
