Hello all

Nubee poster here. I've been reading the posts on here quite regularly for about 2 years but could never be bothered to contribute till today :)

Anyways. I was wondering what everyone thought about Embley's chances of AA selection are this year. He's had a stellar season to date and has covered a lot of terriotory in the games he's played (runs the entire length of the ground - or seems to anyway). He's come on this year in leaps and bounds.

Even if he doesn't make it this year, if he maintains some of the solid form next year I'm sure he won't miss the selectors eyes.

Any thoughts?

gday EIA good to have you aboard.....

Embley definetaly would have to be our most improved player this year (and thats saying something, because there are plenty in that category - Gardiner, Fletcher (in terms of consistency), Sampi, Green, Wirrpunda (also consistency), Kerr, Judd - in fact there aren't really any that haven't.)

He will definetaly have to be going close to AA selection but one must remember he is actually in quite a competitive position, with it seeming almost certain that three tall forwards will make it into the forward line - three out of Tredrea, Goodes, Lloyd and Tarrant with one on the bench, and Embley won't get it on the wing I wouldn't think.

So if he was in the forward line, it would make the AA forward line quite short on smalls, even though Embley's great assett is his ability to play both tall and short.

But yea, he's definetaly in the mix, he may even be able to pip one of the above four, and may even just get in on the bench or as a small forward.

but if he keeps it up in years to come, he'll definetaly finish with at least one, probably more, AA guernseys in years to come.

His major obstacle is the players he plays with. At this stage, Gardiner, Matera, Cousins and Fletcher are almost shoe-ins for a spot in the AA, while all the fanfare associated with Judd gives him a shot at AA too. Thats four, potentially five players who will feature in the AA team, and unless we finish top 2 I don't quite think we will have that many representatives.

potentially he is good enough but i think there are 3 things standing in his way.

there are as good if not better players in the league that can play on the HF line.
there are better players in the eagles that will get AA selection before him.
he's not a known player.

of course if he continues to improve in the second half of the year then he might just make it.

Embers is a champion.

Worsfold has obviously had a direct and profound influence on him, and he has taken great steps this year in becoming a consistent contributor to our team.

Embley is so athletic and versatile he has runs on the wing, and is even played at CHF in bursts.

Great player, and will only get better under our coaching panel.

As for AA selection, he could be in the mix, but they are more likely to give the wing positions to someone like Judd and other more "midfield" types.

Embley has blossomed this year into the player we all thought he could be. But as for AA, probably not. I think he has certainly being good enough this season, I believe he is behind only Fletch and Cuz for disposals for the Eagles and IIRC only Fido and maybe Samps have kicked more goals than him this year?

If your in the top 3 ball winners and goal kickers in a side that finishes top 2 in the league then surely you have a shot at AA. What will hurt him the most (and Fletch) is that they are not name players and will take at least another season like the one they are having now to really push for AA.

IMO we have 3 absolute certs in Cuz, Gardy and Fido. Fletcher, Wirrpunda and Embers have realistic shots and Judd is a darkhorse.

Seems as though Cuzz has stepped up a little in the last month or so, and Fletch hasn't been as prominent as he was in the first month a bit of the season.

Fletcher has more chance than Cousins.

Dont know about that. Cousins was in our best in round 1 then was kind of flat for about 6 weeks but since round 7 or so he has consistently being our best player and IMO is a shoo in for AA. I dont think he will drop off either, the Cuz we all know is usually extremely consistent so watch for him to keep up his huge workload for the rest of the season and once again earn himself an AA guernsey.

Fletcher though is also a huge chance, but will the selectors look past the name and give it to him on merit, let's hope so.

While I said Fletcher has more chance than Cousins, in reality Cousins has more chance solely because of his name.

While Fletcher has probably been the better performer to this point in the season, it is likely he will be overtaken by Cuz in the last part.
