It's not a bad next morning read

Are the Bombers really that far behind them? Perhaps they are a year or so, and a couple of No. 1 draft picks, behind the Blues. Carlton has been bad for longer, which in theory means it should get better more quickly. But the gap is not huge

Emma Quayle makes most of the 'known' football journalists look silly with their lack of knowledge.

Not saying that because she gave Essendon a wrap. Her articles are almost always spot on and flawlessly researched.

She knows more about drafting than most going around.
FUnyn that people who do the ground work for years tend to build up some sort of knowledge & sources of information - and can hence write well formed ideas in some sort of readable, coherent format. Whereas w***er former players get into the media and gob off about all sorts of crap without having the foggiest (not looking at anyone Gary)

in all honesty, i think we really are that far behind Carlton.

and that's what made the win so unbelievably awesome :D

That's a load of tosh

The only thing Carlton's kids have over ours is a little bit more experience. In terms of talent, we're easily right up there with them.

essendon are clearly ahead of carlton. the blues only have one decent key position player (fevola) - their defence is still very ordinary and they have a long way to go. the bombers have recruited well with all of pears, ryder and hurley shaping up as nice key position players and then there's gumbleton. essendon are also significantly quicker which showed. carlton had jamison, carazzo and walker missing (scotland was omitted for form) - the bombers had mcveigh, mcphee, welsh, prismall, reimers and gumbleton to come back into the side going forward. i know which team i'd be backing over the next few years.

chris judd could have played in another premiership if he'd joined essendon...but then again he's probably not worried as he was only after money.

People seem to keep forgetting Lonergan in their list of players missing from the weekend. Arguably more valuable than McPhee, Prismall and Gumbleton.

arguably. but i would disagree. However might be ahead of Gumby due to injury.

Experience is the key.

Carlton kids have had the opportunity/time to show their talent, i.e. Gibbs, Murphy and Kreuzer.

Our kids haven't, i.e. Zaharakis, Hurley

IMO carlton are in front.

Judd, Murphy, Gibbs <=> Watson, Stanton, Lovett
i can really see the resemblance there :thumbsu::thumbsd:

Judd makes the world of difference.

Watson and Stanton > Murphy and Gibbs.

P.S football isn't played between three players.

Correction:
The only thing Carlton has over us is one big name midfielder, which makes the rest of the team look good. Thus they are heavily backed by punters because of judd.

That's pretty much it really - take out Judd and their engine room is Murphy + a couple of kids.

We keep beating them because our midfield runs deeper than theirs.

Yeah.

Carlton has striking similarities to West Coast.

I mean
Carlton without judd were a nothing side
West Coast without judd are a nothing side

but then again.
Carlton with judd is still a nothing side
:)
