Did anyone read the Encyclopedia Brown books in primary/high school? Basically it was about a dude called Leroy Brown (Encyclopedia was his nickname because he knew stuff about everything) and his side-kick called Sally Kimball and they ran a junior detective business. The main source of their crimes would revolve around this guy called Bugs Meany who had his own gang trying to rort the Idaville community.

I've just found a spoof website called Encyclopedia Brown and the Case of the Pirated MP3's - can be found here Here are some classic quotes.

"Four men in tight, black leather pants and sleeveless T-shirts got out of the limousine. They had pale skin covered in tattoos, and one of them had bits of metal hanging from various parts of his face. Encyclopedia and Sally exchanged worried glances. They had never seen men their fathers' age wearing leather pants before.

"Do not be frightened, young children, I am Lars Ulrich, powerhouse drummer for Metallica, and we are needing your help, Encyclopedia Brown." Metallica is a popular musical group known for blending traditional rock and roll with heavy metal while using more introspective and meaningful lyrics than most metal bands. "I am giving you a quarter."

Found another quote from the story of Encyclopedia Brown and the Case of the Dead Child Beauty Queen - here

"In the summertime, Encyclopedia ran a detective agency out of his garage with Sally Kimball, his junior partner. Sally was the prettiest girl in the fifth grade and the toughest, too. She was the only person who could stand up to Bugs Meany, the leader of the local gang, the Tigers. Sally’s parents worried that she might be a lesbian".

Yeah sounds like a blast, but think I'll save the URL in case i ever end up a deaf dumb paraplegic mute.

no, i think if u ended up with the above ailments, it would still be boring!

Thanks Go Eagles for bringing back some great memories.
These books where really popular at my primary school (lower plenty ps) but where consider to be 'uncool' to read at high school!!

i got a great deal of pleasure reading these books but one big problem was that many of the clues/crimes/stories where way over my head. This was primarily due to the fact that the stories related to North American terms and the fact that primary school stundents are,by age, very unworldly.

For a man so defensive on the Aboriginal thread, you surely show your class with this comment.

Silence would have achieved the same result.
