As an Australian player given the probelms in England, if you were asked to vote at a team meeting, how would you vote?

You've got to understand that the pitch invasion problems occur only when it is Pakistan involved. The 'British' Pakistanis support Pakistan over England & it is them that invade the pitch-they beat one of the Headingley stewards senseless-kicking him in the head etc. There has been some racial tension up north in Lancashire between Paksitanis & English whites away from the cricket & this is adding to the problems at cricket matches.
I've read some of the letters in the sports pages about this problem & one of the themes that comes up is that immigrant communities to England tend to support the country of their ancestors whereas in Australia people from who have immigrated from abroad tend to adopt Australia as their team straight away, but from my experience in Oz especially regarding soccer this is not the case with people from Europe(Italy/Greece/Croatia) creating ethnically based clubs,I would be interested to see what you all think of this & whether there is a difference in England compared with Australia as to whether people support the country of their birth or the country of their parents/grandparents.
If I was Steve Waugh I would be fairly concerned as I would be if I was the England captain, you just don't need hordes of people legging it onto the pitch trying to nick the stumps & screwing anyone who gets in their way.

i voted that they should play on a deserted field

if the english crowds, cant be controlled, then stuff em, and just televise the match

Now i dont want to sound racist here at all, but it does look like its the pakistani supporters causing the trouble.

Dipper, we've had the same problems in Australia but thankfully not to the same extent that is happening over there at the moment. We had a few problems with the Sri Lankan supporters a couple of years ago but I couldn't say whether they just flew in for the games or had immigrated here.

We had more problems with the local soccer as most of the clubs are or were ethnically based and some fairly nastly clashes occurred. I know that Adelaide City deliberately changed their nickname from Uventus (sp?) to the Zebras to try and alleviate some of the ethnic implications, especially as West Adelaide was a Greek based club.

I am really worried about the final on Saturday and would be just as happy to see an empty stadium. Watching the end of the Aust v Paki game today I saw a couple of the security people looking a bit dazed so we may hear some more about that.

I dont know why they bothered with that plastic fence thing. Did anyone see the end of the match when it was all over that the pakastani "hoodlums" just went feral and went through the fence and ran onto the ground. Also, why didnt security pick up on any firecrackers etc while spectators went into the ground, the suspension of play would not have happened if this was done.

I can't believe Steve Waugh came back onto the field to play. That was a bit risky....

I think they should boycott the final and concentrate on the Ashes. Who cares about some one-day cup final against Pakistan? It doesn't mean anything.

The Ashes must be Australias focus and risking injury to our lads before the first test would be silly.

Pakistani and Indian crowds are getting a very bad name these days and something needs to be done before someone gets injured. Cricket makes most of its $$$ on TV rights these days and sponsorship so I think matches involving either of these two teams should be played in an empty stadium for a certainperiod to let these supporters know that if they continue with this behaviour then they will not be able to go to the cricket.

This is not the same thing as a streaker or the guy who runs onto the pitch to shake a players hand after a big knock or a milestone, which I have no problem with at all. These people are intending to cause injuries to stewards and opposition players and should be punished.
