I was trying to work out the difference between using, Take on, and Takes on.

I heard on the radio an ad for the SANFL they said something along the lines of "when the Roosters takes on the Redlegs." It sounded strange, I always thought it to be Take on. Does it matter?

I would have thought you would use a singular when describing the action of a collective so "when the Roosters take on the Redlegs" sounds more like it.
