I had only ever known Brian Eno from his ambient music and had passed over his early albums. A huge mistake on my part. I have been listening to three early albums and consider them to be sublime recordings in the art rock / pop genre.
The first is
Here Come The Warm Jets. An album of great experimental pop with superb musicianship with the likes of Phil Manzanera and Robert Fripp on Guitars.
Recommended tracks are The Paw Paw Negro Blowtorch, Baby's On Fire, Blank Frank, Dead Finks Dont Talk and Some Of them Are Old.
Taking Tiger Mountain By Strategy
Following the same formula of experimental Pop but with a loose concept this album sounds fresh and vibrant even though it was released in 1974.
The lyrics are witty and leave one wondering as to what went through his mind to relate all this to an obscure Chinese communist opera.
Recommended tracks are Burning Airlines Give You So Much More, The fat lady Of Limbourg, Third Uncle and The True Wheel.
allmusic calls
Another Green World "A universally acknowledged masterpiece" and I am not going to argue.
This shows the beginnings of Eno's interest in ambient on several tracks as he sings less than on the previous two.
Recommended tracks are The Big Ship and I'll Come Running though there are no weak tracks and the whole record is seamless in presentation.
Brian Eno may have passed a generation of music lovers by but he deserves to be listened to for the quality and creativeness of his music.
