Excellent interview tonight between Andrew Denton and Rene Rivkin.

Not sure what i think of Rivkin, one part of me thinks he's an arrogant prick who deserves what he got, and the other half of me feels sorry for him.

Anyone else watch it?

Yeah, I saw it. Denton's ability to draw out the excruciating detail is amazing. He should have been a priest.

I'm starting to warm to Rene, though his "relaxed" demeanour seems rather affected for my liking (take his statement that he does not worry about things that he cannot influence as an example). In fact it seems at odds with his confessions to prescription drugs and worry beads.

For all that, I don't see him as a criminal mastermind. There are others who I'd rather the corporate cops pursue first, who are in the headlines frequently, ala Brad Cooper.

A rogue, but rather likeable.

It was the second time Rivkin had been on the show in a number of weeks and say what you like about Rivkin, he's a fascinating person to listen to. Obnoxious, self-delusional, patronising and arrogant in the extreme, but I've watched intently through both interviews he's done with Denton.

It has be said that Rivkin said some absurdities during tonight's interview. One in particular was that his sentence was the greatest injustice in Australian judicial history. Spare me.

And even more laughable was his belief that having the likes of Alan Jones (suddenly having compassion for those who break the law) and Graeme Richardson giving character evidence on his behalf was a bonus. Uh-huh.

I thought it was a very interesting interview. I got the feeling that Denton seemed somewhat intimidated by Rivkin at times. Maybe intimidated is not the word I'm looking for, but if you saw the interview, I'm sure you would understand what I'm trying to say.

His mentioning of suicide was very interesting, and almost brought the interview to a halt. Rivkin is very interesting, I quite like the bloke, because he lives his life the way he wants, and as he said, without hurting anyone.

I can't believe he is getting 70 days jail for "stealing" $335 odd.

Great interview.

3AW reported this as "Rivkin threatens to commit suicide if he loses his appeal".

Lovely journalism

Anyone that was incinerated by the Australia v Manchester United game a few years back may beg to differ - I know I do.

I agree with wagstaff- I still can't stand the man, but I found him fascinating to listen to, Denton is a great interviewer, but it wouldn't be too hard with a subject like that.

Claiming that if Kerry Packer told him Amcor was a good buy it was "insider trading" was a complete crock - anyone with even a vague knowledge of equity markets would know that.

Very good interview as was the Pete Posslethwaite one.

Rifkin is being melodramatic in my view with the suicide stuff.

Apparantly he has said he will never speak to Denton again

Seems strange as the finish of the chat seemed cordial enough.
