And actually, 9 times out of 10, the people I have to push out of the way on escalators are people younger than me.

Oh thats right, your from Melbourne, where they don't know how to raise their children properly.
 
London is fierce on escalator etiquette, especially in the underground. When I first moved over there I had no idea about the strict stand right and walk left rules. You soon find out if you're doing it wrong, people literally barge into you if you stand on the wrong side.

I thought they were being rude at first but after a while you realise what a good system it is. If everyone follows the rules it makes things a lot easier.

They even have signs "stand to the right" as you ascend/descend the escalators. Blocking escalators is unheard of over there. Wish it was the same here.
