port adelaide sometimes
First quarter Port +19 points.

Good start by Port. But two things.

Essendon came back strongly in the second half of that quarter.

And, the umpires gave Port the frees. One or two of them weren't there. Usually if you get the frees in the first quarter, you don't get them in the second quarter.

Good gutsy match. Both sides switched on.

Second quarter very important.

We desperately need to win this one to avoid the spoon.I cant see us winning another game for the rest of the year (except Carlton)

A win would be nice - but irrespective of the result the signs to half time by the kids is very good - Symes, Chaplin, Surjan and Thomson have all shown good form.

Half time. Port up by 26 points.

• That's two quarters won in a row by Port. Encouraging.
• Still a keen contest. No-one's dropped their head yet.
• Essendon look as if they had a better target in Lucas than Port had in Tredrea. At the -03 minute mark, when Tredrea was taken off, Port suddenly looked as if their forward structure had been liberated. Good move, Mark Williams. Do you have the balls to keep Tredrea off? Essendon were getting rebound off Tredrea through Fletcher.
• If the contest remains tight, and 26 points is still tight, Brogan might be the key in the last ten minutes of the game.
• If Lucas had kicked more accurately, Port would be behind by now. Williams has to counter Lucas. Wakelin and Bishop are not doing enough. White keeps appearing in the backlines. What's happening there?

Prediction: Port by nine points if they hold their metal in the third quaarter. If Essendon break through, Port heads mighth dip.

For a battle betrween 15th and 16th, this is a surprisingily high quality game.

That's two quarters of committed football. Keep going lads.

Symes looks good, so do Sala Thommo and Ezard.

Ebert excellent and Thurstans is going surprisingly well.

Walshy's made a few errors as have a number of others but at least it's while being adventurous.

If Tredrea was firing you'd say this was almost won, sadly he's a shadow.

Thank god the Bombers are not kicking straight.

Yup have to agree. What about little Jimmy's desperate smother out on the wing, reminded me of a slightly smaller version of Wilbur. Top stuff.

The skills are shocking from both sides (ours just slightly worse) but the young'uns are giving it a real crack. Even the much maligned Thurstans is having a good game with Lovett-Murray getting in his ear at every opportunity, perhaps this is the key too get Tobes fired up. Choco and the coaches will have too wind him up before the game every week and then just release him before the bounce.

Only real worry is Bish is getting a bath from Lucas this could lead to our downfall tonight. Still really positive signs from the boys let's hope this is the turnaround we are looking for.

P.S for almost the first time in living memory we are getting a ride from the umps in Melbourne. Will wonders never cease??

Ezard - great spoil!!, playing ok
Ebert - not as good as last week but no too bad
Thomson - Great, kicked a goal!
Surjan - really good, playing backline
Chaplin - playing well on Johns
Symes, Salopek and Pearce - KILLING THEM!!

Symes with 17 disposals to half time!!!

Do you think so? I read that as both sides exerting genuine pressure on their opponents. Applying pressure without giving away a free is a genuine skill, not always credited.

I'm enjoying this game immensely.

Both sides are attempting to play accountable attacking football. Not the close-down keepy-off contest-denial stuff.

Wouldn't take a genius to work out this is bottom v second bottom. Great stuff from Symes and White (and most of the other kids), Toby's been ok, the other 2 whipping boys will continue to be whipped. Kane's been a bit better, Tredders :thumbsd:

as Bishop :D:D:D:Ds up again

Tredders kicks a goal. Keep him close to the square, no running to the pockets.

Ebert takes a bit of a screamer, kicks a goal, crowd chanting "EBO"? :D

Port by 46. Good quarter by Thurstans, worked hard.

Bishop continues to provide nothing. Tredrea hits a purple patch, relieves Bish of Lucas.

Three quarter time. The commitment is still there and in the last ten minutes we broke free with some terrific football.

Three goals and a an assist to Tredrea. Come on big fella.

Lade's ruckwork should be bottled. He is a gem at present.

All the young guys I mentioned at half time continue to impress and I forgot to mention Surjan who's also going well.

Thurstans, well I think I've seen something tonight I've seen maybe once before:- Three quarters of good football up forward.

TYhree quarter timie, port +47 points.

After 1/2 time this year, Port has won 2 quarters and lost 14. Now they have won 3.

notes

17.50 Brogan landed heavily. Bradley is a Fletcher clone.
16.00 Port contu=inue to stack up free kicks. watch out in the the last quarter.

14.30 Brilliant mark and goal ebert. Best for a long time. Not that onehanded flukey thing last week but a solid mark and true conversion.

11.36 Ebert now takes a greedy shot at goal. he's taking his father's advice.

11.20 Brogan goal. Told ya he'd figure.

Turning point for this game.

10.42 Mrogan marks again but misses on the angle.

9.04 Brogan off gingerly

'8.01 ewrrors from port but the defence holds up.

7.26 Nothing up front.

6.00 game not won but port can hold.

5.50 More frees to port.

5.40 Tredrea marks and misses. bad

4.20 Trerea mmarks and golas. good.

2.56 Dew goal from Tredrea. + 34

2.30 Lucas onto Tredrea? surely not.

2.12 Tredrea mark and goal. superb. game over. my analysis is 100% *hite.

If we had produced this sort of commitment the last few weeks, there wouldn't been have near the amount of angst there's been.

Where's Wilbur? Injured? Haven't seen him since the second quarter. Sal off with a lower back injury it seems. Gneh!

Though it's fair to say that there's a considerable difference in class between this week's opponent and the previous two...

Full time Port +60

Crowd 29,232. That's shocking for the major market. How many port supporters? 4000? More? Where are the Essendon people?

quarter notes:

16.00 Tredrea to goal for an excellent goal assist.

15.00 Great running goal for essendon.

14.28 Sewtup, essendon goal.

14.00 Pearce goal. Port +47.

10.31. Esendon have styoipped. Heads down, game over. A good game has become a bath. Port +53.

8.47 Salopek in back pain.

8.00 It's junk time now. Nothing that happens from here will mean anything. All Port wants from here on is no more injuries and no reports.

0.30 Port by 62. Essendon eight losses in a row.
A point. Port by 61. Another point.

Port by 60 points. A keen contest became a sheer bath.

Yeah the skills were pretty atrocious on both sides but the sheer run and determination made up for it from our guys. Especially the younger guys stood up.
