Not a bad 22

Looks like the selectors are going to have a tough time, would like to see more pace on the ground with some of recruits maybe coming in for people like Welsh or similar.

Kepler Bradley would not be in the best 32 at Essendon.

Houli and Hislop will play round 1.

Probably the league's worst midfield.

Sorry - but it's true.

One-paced and as shallow as it gets.

Good sides have 6-7 guys (at least) they can rotate through.

If Camporeale and Cole command spots, you're in trouble.

They hardly command spots, Cole played 3 games last year, he isn't in our best 25.

Top 6 in inside 50's, clearances and first possessions, it's quite underrated.

Inside 50 to Opp. Inside 50 ratio was comparable to very good midfields of Hawthorn and Melbourne and more than twice as good as the young, skillfull Carlton, so it is quite accountable also.

Midfield's don't have to be quick, Sydney's isn't quick, Freo's isn't overly quick, neither is Melbourne's. Andy Lovett should also get a lot of time there next year.

Another braindead WCE supporter. It's like a plague on these boards with the Hawks and Tiges supporters also.

Which players do the damage, though?

Just seems like you lack hurt factor.

Those teams all have players with a bit of toe, and they have a good mix.

Essendon's midfield just seems to lack dash and class.

I would say it's clearly your biggest weakness?

Do you disagree?

We have those types in Winderlich ( who was well on the way to making it until injury hit, expect a big season from him), Dyson ( very skilful and quick), Nash ( great skills and not slow), Dempsey ( this kid can play), Lovett ( think he may play in the FL though), Monfries( nothing needed to be said), Stanton ( quick and is improving skills and decision making every game). Havent named first year player because you cant expect them to do much in there first year.

Sorry, but pretty pointless posting a best 22 in december. If we had actually won games this year we could list it,but when u have the type of season we had,its kinda silly to talk about team lists.

There are going to be big changes in our team match day line-ups next season,it will take a few weeks into the Premiership season to find out who's hot and who's not.

Putting Cole in a list like this now is laughable almost. He only played a few games in 06'. We don't know anything yet about what he can do.

JJ, Watson, Stanton and Campo are all very good players. We're not overly quick at all, but neither are Sydney, who were a point off a 2nd flag.

Neither Hawthorn or Melbourne are overly quick either. They are hard running midfields, which we are aiming to be also, JJ and Stanton are a good start. Hopefully Lovett plays more there as well, he's very quick, we've definately addressed our speed lately.

I would say it's clearly your biggest weakness?

I do disagree, we scored the most points of any side last year outside the 8, you can't do that with the worst midfield in the AFL.

We lost a lot of gamesthrough lack of structure both up forward and down back. Granted, our midfield did turn it over a fair bit, but the skills and confident improved a lot in the second half of the year.

As I've said elsewhere, anyone planning to play Fletcher at CHB is dreaming. If he could play CHB, he would have played there when the gun CHB's were killing us and Fletcher was on some nobody in the goal square. Fletch can't play CHB (and Michael ain't brilliant there either).

In my view our best 22 is:

FB:...McVeigh....Michael.....Fletcher
CHB:.McPhee.....Lucas.......NLM
C:....Campo.......Watson.....Nash
CHF:.Lovett.......Johns........Bradley
FF:...Hird...........Lloyd........M.Johnson
ONB:.Hille..........Stanton.....J.Johnson

Int:...Laycock.....Peverill......Monfries.....Dyson

The midfield is a bit slow, but with Dyson & Nash rotating through, and NLM & Lovett on either side (on the HF & HB flanks), there's a bit of speed involved. And Stanton, Monfries & Campo aren't slow (although they're not fast either). But it is a good mix of inside & outside players.

The big issues with that team is the forward line, with Lucas sacrificed to play CHB. You're relying on Lucas to stream out of the backline and kick it over the CHF line, or for Johns & Bradley to present enough between them. I think they could do it, but obviously Lee & Gumbleton (THE ONLY TWO ALTERNATIVES) would be looked at closely.

Bit worrying that with that side, the only backup non-ruck talls are Lee & Gumbleton. Not much depth if any of our talls go down. The other possiblity is to play a ruck in the forward line, but that doesn't traditionally work very well.

The other problem with that line-up is age. Fletcher, Hird, Lloyd, Lucas, Michael, Camp, JJ and MJ are not spring chickens and still vitally important to the success of that side.

Just glad now we got Gumbleton over Hansen! He looked like "TOOL OF THE WEEK" with that Hair, and what made it worse he said it took him half an hour to look like a F@#KWIT!

B: Welsh Micheal MJohnson
HB: NLM Fletch McPhee
C: Bradley Watson Dempsey
HF: Hird Lucas Lovett
FF: Johns Lloyd Monfries

FOL: Hille McVeigh Stanton

Int: Ryder Campo Gumbleton The Heff

It definately be a tough call i am trying to think if i missed some and i am sure i have feel free to critique.

Yeah good point.. Could jump on the bench and replace Campo.. I don't want the job of selecting the team that is for sure

I think he'll be pumped for a big year next year, Dempsey isn't ready to play every week IMO
