I don't. I hope Freo win so we are still 2 games out - where we deserve to be.
Oh get over it. What do we have to gain finishing 9th over 8th? Nothing.

Get over it yourself. Finishing 8th will do us no favours. It will only mask the massive deficiencies at the club, in particular of the coaching staff.

I know. Screw "where we're supposed to be".

I wanna make the finals!!!!! If we play someone like Melbourne (who are our bitches in the finals ;) ).. who knows where we can take it.

I aint givin up, that is fer sure!

I understand why Geelong supporters at time accept mediocrity: it's difficult to criticise players and a club that you admire/adore.
I will never understand this Richmondesque mentallity of wishing bad things for the club just for the sake of it.
8th/9th won't change the internal review at the end of the season, Costa and Co are smart enough to base the review on failure to live up to potential rather than actual ladder position.
However, 8th will give the players and supporters a bit more hope for next year.
Chill, man, and get behind your team.

Sorry, you're on your own there. Accepting mediocrity - how far has that got us. It's created an insipid culture around this club which is like a cancer.

I'm not wishing for bad things happening to us. I was supporting the team today. I just don't want to make the finals because another team chokes and have the team and the coach gain a false sense of achievement. Playing like we have this season does not equate to deserving a finals spot. We've shown glimpses of form which proves we've got the talent, but also proves that there's something inherently wrong somewhere because we're so inconsistent. I point the finger at Bomber.

I'd hope it wouldn't change things. But I can just see Costa coming out and saying, "Mark Thompson did a great job getting the team into the finals from a position earlier in the year where everyone thought we were gone". That would make me sick. It's BECAUSE of Bomber that we're in this predicament in the first place - hoping for other teams to lose so that we can surreptitiously slide into the 8.

As I've said. I am behind them. But I want changes at the end of the year. I certainly don't want everyone to think that we've done well by making the finals.

9th is looking good! :thumbsu:

I just can't understand this kind of comment. Even if we play just 1 final that is better than taking Sept off.

Good side play finals and have finals experience. Even 1 more final under our belts is better that none. The pain of losing a final burns a lot longer than sliding out of contention in say round 21 or 22. If we are even a slim chance at the 8 we should not give up until it is totally out of contention - that is the attitude we need absolutely ingrained in our team.

Out side needs to do this if it is to get better. I sometimes think we forget the age of our side - we have 24 players aged 20 - 24 - the most in the competition. And another 10 under 20. That means we are only just approaching our peak - not past it as some keep suggesting. In the past 5 years we have played in only half a doz finals. This group needs finals experience, this group needs to play to win in each and every game.

I cannot believe that so many think that this was our year and that Thompson should have delivered a flag (too many believed Dean Laidley who was just trying to hide his own inadequacies). What absolute bollocks.

Wake up and smell the coffee. I don't know what this is based on - not the facts.

Yes, I would have taken it if we fluked one last year but seriously on every other measure we are just not there yet. And I am not sure if there is much else we could have done in the past 5 years to speed that up other than tank for picks.

Seriously look at the list, the age, draft picks, available trades and I am not sure how you can reach any other conclusion - we are just not there yet.

Great post!

i reckon our run home is excellent, we cant make the finals without beating likely finals sides, (except hawks) so if we lose one of them and miss out, well so be it, but if we win them all then we deserve to be there because we can make an impact. so i would rather a tough run home than a poncy one like some of the club are getting.

Yeah let's finish 8th and cop another final loss at the SCG. If we make the 8 then dimwits like you will think we got something out of this season. Oh and of course Thompson will stay. We have one of the top 4 lists in the AFL, so don't give me that 'we're not ready' garbage. We've been ready for a few seasons now and come home with nothing whatsoever.
