hey lads, trying to do an excel formula and it just won't work for me at the moment.
basically i've done a spreadsheet for my boss for maintenance work that he has done on his properties. and each record is seperated into a category of works - plumbing, carpentry, cleaning etc,.
at the bottom of the spreadsheet i want to have a sub total of all the different categories of maintenance.
so the logical way of saying it would be if the sum of column f for all records where column e equals "materials", and so on for all the different categories.
the problem is i'm not 100% sure how to put that into excel language.
i sort the spreadsheet into category order because we need to keep it in date order.
