I think we lack an experienced midfielder to help some of the young blokes....just wondering whose on the market. We probably wont get a superstar unless they really really want to come [heard n.lappin is a chance coz his wife is pregnant and wants to be around family which live in geelong]
so who else...

Betheras- Struggling to get a game...turns 28 later this year.
Played: 85
2003: 9

Notting- In & Out of Brissy, turns 25 in October.
Played: 87
2003: 13

Scotland- Hasnt cemented his side at pieland. 23 yrs old
Played: 51
2003: 8

Thats just to start...ill put a few more on later

Notting just got dropped for the Grand Final. He is un-contracted and a huge chance to be returning home. A western Victoria boy.

Joel Bowden is one I'm keen on but he may be a bit pricey. Really depends on what Richmond want.

Didn't know that Lappin's family was from Geelong. He is also still uncontracted and the Lions have huge cap pressure. Would be very expensive and we would have to give up a lot. How old is he?

What about Nick Stevens from Port?? Surely we'd have to at least try and get him down to Geelong??

I personally think he's a tad too old and not worth what we'd have to give up to get him (Most likely our first round and a fringe). He's around 27 years, btw.

Also, the reason why nobody is suggesting Nick Stevens is because it has become apparent over the last couple of days that, he wants to return to Melbourne (read not Geelong) and play for Collingwood.

I'm seriously hoping Collingwood lose this year's Premiership, otherwise they could be glaring back-to-back in the face with a midfield like they'd have (Buckley, Stevens, Woey, Burns, Licuria and a few others) :(

Lions have cap pressure!!!

Damn...I'd better get onto the AFL and have their cap increased. This just won't do.

Cmon guys lets start supporting our poor norther neighbours.

There's negatives on both sides though... a Brisbane win would be absolutely boring but then a Collingwood win would not be good, simply because it is Collingwood.

getting back to the topic........

Joel Bowden- Would be a good inclusion to the side, roaming the wing and baggin a couple of goals. The only problem would be his price. Richmond would want quite alot for him. Also some question over his playing enthusiasm. (I think he jus re-signed with the Tigers???)

Tim Notting- Another great inclusion. Is a excellent grab overhead. I can see him on a wing/half forward flank. Notting is really a utility as he can play up forward, on the wing, or half back. Seems to have fallen out of favour at Brissie, so should be chance. Only problem is last time, if i remember correctly, we did try to lure him down to Geelong, but Brisbane's asking price was way too much.

Jarrod Schofield- Would do okay but isnt really the 'quality' type of player Geelong really need. However, he did have a good season, he polled quite well in the Brownlow i remember (12-13 votes i think) Also how old is he? seems around 26

Adam Yze- Melbourne would NEVER let him go

Travis Johnstone- Wouldnt mind him at the club. Seems to have dropped out of favour with the Dees. Is a great carrier of the ball. Problems we would face to get him at the Cattery would be mainly suiting Melbournes needs. Like Bowden, the asking price might be too much. Also some question ova his consistency (had a excellent 2003, finished in top ten of Brownlow, but 2003 was pretty mediocre)

I doubt there is any point in trying. Stevens wants to go back to Melbourne, effectively ruling out Geelong. Also, his demands would be huge, i dun think Geelong would be able to accomodate them.

Bowden and Notting would both come with a rather expensive price tag (in the form of what he'd have to give up, and salary wise) thus, I think it would be a tad silly for us to bring out the cheque book or our roll to add them to our list.

Money and draft picks aside... I'd take Joel Bowden. In my mind he is clearly the better player.

No doubt Bowden is the better player. Whilst I agree with you that he might be a little pricey if we trade outright with the Tigers, we need to get involved in some threesomes or foursomes :D . The bulldogs want Street and and the Tigers want Brown who inturn are willing to part with Bowden. We need to get involved in this
For Example
Brown to Richmond
Street, and Pick 6 to the Bulldogs
Bowden to Geelong

Work around that idea. Joel Bowden is exactly what we need. He is an outside midfielder who carries the ball, ave 23 possies a game, and can kick some goals. He will also take some heat off players like Corey & GAJ who were tagged serverly this year.

IMO we should target getting three players this trade period: Bowden, Rawlings/Whitnall, and Croad. That gives us a forward, an outside midfielder and a flexible tall that can play forward or back. In the Pre-Season draft we should look at trying to get a small crumbing forward like a Davies, Harding or Vardy. These players will help us plug our four major deficiencies and make us a much stronger team next year. Put these guys in your side and all of a sudden where dangerous.

Yeah, I hear you mate. However, I'll take it a step further - I'm assuming Bartel will be elsewhere in 2004. The main reason I'd be doing this is, although I'd love to keep Bartel and believe he is a future superstar, it has become apparent that the ex-Falcon wants out (And I hate it :()

The reason I raise this issue yet *again* is that I'd hate for us to give up pick 6 - a potential superstar. Whilst I believe giving up Street and Bartel in exchange for Bowden would be a complete steal (for the Tigers) we may as well use Bartel purposefully. Maybe we could use Bartel with Street to get a better player than Bowden. I'm not fully convinced Joel is what we need right now.

Also, I'd hate to give up pick 6 and Bartel in the one year. We may as well kiss a flag goodbye for 10 years if that happens, regardless of who we get in return.

Very, very sound logic. My only queries lie on Davis and Vardy. To be honest, I don't really know a lot about Davis, but I sure know about Vardy :D Recruiting Vardy would be like welcoming back Adam Houlihan, minus actually taking the field.

Harding to be delisted? That certainly is an interesting idea to raise. I can't see it happening somehow, he's a very handy player for the Roos.

Pick 6 is Richmond's not ours. I would also hate us to give up a pick 7 which would bring in another very good player (Chaplin:D)
There is no way Richmond will get Nathan Brown for only Bowden.

1. Trade Bartel(I hate it  ) or Wojcinski to try and get a deal to nab us Croad.

2. Pick 22 + Spriggs + ? for Rawlings or Spriggs + Wojcinski/Bartel:mad: + 4th rd for Whitnall.

3. Brown to Rich
Street + Pick 6(Rich) to WB
Bowden to Geel

4. Mooney for Harding/Davis

This would be smart trading as it would be attacking our specific deficencies and make us much stronger. We would also get a top 10 kid plus Blake in the draft. The season won't be able to start quick enough for me if this happened.
