F1 Recall - Mansell

Ok folks, I'm developing a series of pages for my website that look back on my personal memories of some of F1's greatest and most exciting racers. I've started with Nige because... well, I want to, so ner [emoji14] . What I'm interested in doing is adding other peoples' memories to the page. It would be fascinating to see how we all remember the past. I will of course, give credit where credit is due.

It was nice what Senna said after Mansel clinched the title in 92, even though the British press put him threw hell because he was Mansells rival.

One of the reasons Prost got away with what he did taking Senna out was because of the Mansell friendly press continual vilification of the Brazilian in the mid 80's onwards. Mansell benefited from the era when fleet street were rabid dogs.

My family were mad Mansell fans. Anyone from south America were not liked. If you remember the early 80's there was a brutal war in the Falklands with Argentina. Brazil were supportive of Argentina.

Maybe people understand a little more what Senna said about politics interfering.

I don't know what to add> My earliest memory was of him slamming the s/wheel after spinning out of the 89 AusGP. Again slamming the s/wheel, after the transmission broke, leaving the pits, while leading the 90JapGP. Barring a mistake sliding off, he should won the 90AusGP. It was exciting watching him chase down Nelson Piquet, going for a banzai move, on the last lap. Then it was the 91 FrenchGP. He hounded Alain Prost the whole race, and passed him twice. He went on to win. Then made it 3 on the trot in Britain, then Germany. It was that block of wins that got him going in his second stint at Williams.

It may not say so statistically, but the 92 season is still the single most dominant season from a driver, I can recall in F1. Rather than diminish his achievement, by finally winning the WC in the FW14B. I see that title as a validation of his whole career. The 93 Indycar title was a bonus. As was the 94 AusGP win.
