You won't find too many convictions around for people who inadvertantly accessed illegal material in that way. Even though the "I wasn't looking for it, it was just in something else I was looking at" is the usual defence offered, check a little deeper into most cases and you'll find that the offending material had usually been copied to a disc or thumb drive, or somehow permanently stored in cases where charges were laid.

I don't think that the likes of 4chan, (who apparently committed the attack on the FB page), and the like will be too concerned about Conroys filter.
Their attacks on Government websites last week were reported as a protest against the filter.
I think it was more like an "up yours". You filter it Conroy and we will find a way around it.
Breaking rules 1&2 there /b/ro

Yes it was 4chan, (inb4 HUURRRR DUURRRRR 1&2 newfag)

And no they had no reason to do it, they just did it for the lols.

To get their name in the papers and it worked.

I think that a facebook page is hardly a classy and sacred memorial anyway.

I am not sure who said it but it is akin to holding a wake at a strip club, and then complain that the strippers are not being respectful.

Maybe I am overreacting but the thought of these facebook visitors technically being guilty of a crime for something they did not seek out threw me through a loop. I know that here at work, we report things that we get that seriously breach our code of conduct. I'm guessing that we should be doing the same if you get inadvertent access to inappropriate stuff online as well.

In the context of obscene pictures on a facebook page, wouldn't it be hard for the police to prove mens rea, that someone actually had the intent of viewing said child pr0n or other objectionable material?

actus non facit reum nisi mens sit rea

4chan represent an extremely small percentage of internet uses so it's nothing like your example at all.

True, but 4chan had hit at least four or five tribute pages before the latest one, you'd think people would stop making them.

And you'd be surprised at what percentage of controversial content on the internet can be attributed to 4chan, directly or indirectly.

Unless you frequent chatrooms/forums you wouldn't have a clue 4chan existed. Which would include the majority.

A large percentage?

Take everything on the internet and divide it by 4chans contribution.

I know that, I am just wondering when people will stop being outraged at these sites being trashed.

Well, think about it. If you were a facebook user and naive to chatrooms then you're going to be outraged when a group of people trash your memorial facebook page with child pr0n. I think you can expect people will always be outraged, which is why there will always be sites like 4chan. It may be there only op to get some attention.

brb, calculating.

:D
