The proliferation of fake news and the ready acceptance of conspiracy theories by many presents a strong argument for the introduction of media studies at a primary school level. Help kids develop a bullshit detector; a faculty that many posters on this board sadly lack.
Precisely.
I think the fellow I was addressing missed the point entirely.

Anyone who swallows anything that comes out of Washington. the Pentagon or the 6 elite-run MSM in the U.S.A....Is a lobotomized zombie.

It's not an either/or proposition. It's about recognising that different publications have different agendas and particular commentators within a media outlet will have their own specific agenda.

Kids should be taught how to recognise the difference between someone reporting the truth and someone who's trying to hide their true agenda.

Unfortunately the days of relying on a single, trusted source for the news are long gone and we've got to deal with it best we can.

Yeah....got no issue there.

But it's also important to understand how the world of man-made society works & is run....That means recognizing both the source of the information & the beliefs/agendas & motivations of those peddling it....particularly the proprietors.

Since 9/11, no one has any excuses left, to not fact check things for themselves. Via multiple independent sources.

If you want to know what's really going on in Yemen & Somalia, then check the face-book page from someone who actually lives there, & has no vested interests.

The C.I.A & the Pentagon are proven pathological Liars & mass murderers.....All this so-called need for secrecy & classified info, is merely code for a web of lies & deceit.

'We know better than you' just won't cut the mustard anymore.

Did you not follow the American election? Lmao
I did. Who was the left wing candidate?

What is worth noting is that the Bezos-owned Washington Post went all in for Clinton, and is pushing the 'Russia hacked the election' derangement angle hard. Why would a multi-billionaire be so afraid of Trump?

Information sent to the masses in the past has always had to go through truth filters and now it doesn't. It is a necessary condition of a modern ethical society. governments have failed understanding the power of new technology. They need to impose truth filters on the Internet. Any companies who operate internet sites where information is transmitted to large amounts of people need to be fined if it is found that users on their sites are getting away with communicating news that can easily be verified as fake. The mainstream media are fined if they are a medium of fake news. It's time Facebook, Twitter and all the other big sites operated by companies are too.

You have no idea sport.

So the Bush administration did what any honest government would do in search of a jolly short war: It hired a PR agency, Hill & Knowlton, to invent and sell the jagged little hook. The end product was perhaps the most egregious lie ever told on behalf of war and conquest.

On October 10, 1990, a 15-year-old Kuwaiti girl, known only by her first name of Nayirah, gave a presentation before the UN Human Rights Caucus that was worthy of an Oscar. Crying, she described what she had apparently witnessed in a hospital in Kuwait City. Her testimony was passed out in a media kit prepared by Citizens for a Free Kuwait.

"I volunteered at the al-Addan hospital,"
Nayirah said. "While I was there, I saw the Iraqi soldiers come into the hospital with guns, and go into the room where ... babies were in incubators. They took the babies out of the incubators, took the incubators, and left the babies on the cold floor to die."

What the media failed to inform us - until the marching orders were well under way, of course - was that Nayirah was a member of the Kuwaiti Royal Family, and “H&K vice-president Lauri Fitz-Pegado had coached Nayirah in what even the Kuwaitis' own investigators later confirmed was false testimony,” Stauber and Rampton reported.

Thirteen years later, Bush the Younger, having witnessed first-hand how effective a good lie could be, sold the world a second military campaign in Iraq on the false claim that Saddam Hussein, who really had every reason to despise the Bush Dynasty more than any Democrat, was hoarding weapons of mass destruction.

And woe to the country – like Jacque Chirac’s France - that expressed heated opposition to America's war plans.

The New York Post newspaper ran a doctored front page photo in which the heads of the French and German ambassadors to the United Nations had been replaced with the heads of weasels furry mammals synonymous with treachery and sneakiness.

Radio disc jockeys in Atlanta offered listeners the chance to smash a Peugeot automobile with a sledge hammer… One of America's most popular political commentators, Bill O'Reilly, suggested that Americans vent their outrage by boycotting French goods.”

Critical thinking would be valued more if a compliant population was not their goal. Logic and rationality are not given the emphasis they deserve.
Indeed, you have hardly provided an argument, just an assertion and an insult. This is the mode of operation of trolls.
To believe the mainstream media has no propaganda function is ridiculous, and when it does, lies or misrepresentation are involved.

The fact some of you guys are confusing the mainstream media having various biases is equivalent to fake news is just moronic.
No, the problem with mainstream news is much worse. You can fool relatively smart people with the guardian or the nyt. And the "real life consequences " are much worse. But not for real people, only statistical people in far off lands. Whereas Only those of high gullibility and low intelligence will take blatantly untrue things on no name sites seriously.

A war that relied on fake news.

There was also the line, told to the Saudi's, that Saddam had a huge military build up on the Saudi border....One single phone call to Russia, could have disproved that bullshit.

This scum lied about everything & yet, people still don't believe that 9/11 was an inside job.:drunk: FMD....Americans are blind, dumb & so easy to manipulate.

They have lost the ability to tell truth from lies, because they've believed in their own bullshit for so long.

To be fair to Americans, there's a higher percentage of them aware than there is Australians.

Head on over to the conspiracy board & check out all the cool 9/11 vids.....Might make a few in here stand up & take notice, that this world of ours is run by a bunch of psychopaths, hiding behind the Declaration of Independence.

Head on over to the conspiracy board .
Thank you but I know what happened, how it affected the world, no need to see the latest. If it wasn't for the MSM being complicit, it wouldn't of happened. They are the institution in place to keep the bastards honest (along with religion) and they sold us all out. These people have no idea what it has done to middle and lower class communities.

Isn't it strange how the entire MSM started pushing the "fake news" narrative at exactly the same time? Had anyone ever heard this term used in the common lexicon before?

Couldn't have anything to do with Pizzagate could it!

9/11 conspiracies are like a religion. Start with the conclusion and then look for evidence. Which is why there's no cohesive narrative between the theories. Again, much like religions.

Before this thread was hijacked by nutters, I think this 'fake news' push will only further obscure the truth as now anyone can claim reports that run counter to their narrative can be dismissed as such.

We're heading towards a world where people live in their bubbles, consuming news only from sources that agree with them. Objective truth will be unnecessary in this dynamic.
